Randy Sargeant Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2024.
Randy Lee Sargeant (nee Sutton), 76, of Sonoma County, CA passed away of peacefully of natural causes on September 13th, 2024 in her beautiful home in the hills of Sebastopol, CA. Her devoted husband of 54 years Steven Charles Sargeant was by her side.

Randy was born on June 8, 1948 in Evanston, Illinois to Henry "Ren" Carpenter Sutton of Honolulu, Hawaii and Weona "Cuz" Sutton of Chicago and Skokie, Illinois. After growing up in Glenview, IL, Randy moved to California to pursue collegiate studies at Whittier College where she promptly met Steven, a burgeoning rock guitarist and songwriter. She married Steven at the age of 22 and after a brief stint in New York City, they eventually settled in Laguna Beach, California where they lived happily by the beach for over 20 years together. Influenced by her mother, owner of the Winnetka School of Ballet classical ballet school, Randy became a semi-professional ballet dancer and a member of the company of Laguna Beach's Ballet Pacifica. She inspired the same passion in her daughter at a young age, allowing them to perform on stage together for many years. She helped operate a ballet school in Santa Ana for underserved youth, giving them exposure and experience in classical dance at no cost.

In 1986 Randy, Steven and only daughter Olivia moved to San Francisco. Randy became an employee of the Schools of the Sacred Heart San Francisco first as a Business Office Administrator and then as Rentals Coordinator, responsible for managing all events at the historic Flood Mansion. She was a passionate and committed community member of Sacred Heart and extremely proud of her 23 years of service there. She was also a volunteer at California Casa as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in foster care, advocating for their best interest and wellbeing.

Randy was an avid horseback rider, a wrangler, a barrel racer. She was a savvy world traveler, often accompanied by her mother and daughter, and lover of the wild marsh and rangeland of the Camargue, France. She was a fiery and spirited wife, and an exceptionally dedicated mother. She was never a great housewife and thankfully for the family, Steven excels at those skills. She loved the California and Kona (Hawaii) coasts and their shared Pacific ocean.

Randy is survived by her husband Steven, daughter Olivia Tincani, son-in-law Giacomo Tincani and only grandson Vasco Marino Tincani. She is also survived by older sister Bonnie Serra of Chicago, Illinois and Stephanie Sutton of Vilcabamba, Ecuador, and her dedicated nieces and nephews: Alessandro, Gianluca, Wendy, Suzanne, Gwendolyn, Isabella, Gabriella, Daniela, Lexi, and Vincent.

There will not be services at this time, but the family will plan a small intimate memorial in the future.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to give generously in Randy's honor to the organizations below, both rooted in her passions and providing unique and meaningful learning opportunities for children in underserviced communities:

I worked with Randy at Schools of the Sacred Heart for many years. Randy was spirited and amusing. If you needed to reserve a space in the school, she was the one to see. It was always an adventure to make my way down the tiny, hidden back hallway to her office. I have fond memories of Randy helping me with the arrangements for my wedding at the Flood Mansion in 1997. Randy was a valued member of the Sacred Heart community for many years.

Sending much love and comfort to her family and friends.

Randy and I were 18 months apart and we were very close for our whole life. She was very funny and fun and when we weren't fighting we would get along fabulously keeping each other entertained. She will be missed by all of us in the family.
