On Wednesday, March 20, 2019, Mr. Raymond Alexander Carruthers passed away at McGuire Veterans Medical Center after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born December 27, 1950 to Lottie Carruthers and Zander Dixon in Newburgh, NY.
He attended Newburgh Public Schools where excelled. After graduation he joined the U. S. Army in 1968, serving in Vietnam. Raymond was Honorably Discharged going back home sharing his good and bad times.
He adored his mother who he shared his birthday with. In the early 90’s, Raymond moved to Peekskill, NY, where attend the College for Computers. If you knew Raymond you would know he loved everything about computers.
He worked in the community with different businesses, sharing in different ideas for their businesses as well as fixing their computer problems.
Raymond married Jacqueline the love of his life, May 2012 in Peekskill. They had been friends for 20 years, they moved to Landover, MD, later relocating to Chester in 2014.
Raymond loved serving God attending two different churches on Sundays. He enjoyed Italian food, a good steak and Jazz music. Raymond was a quiet person but when he had something to say he didn’t mince words.
Raymond was preceded in death by his brother, William.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Jacqueline, children, Raymond Jr., Robert, Nana, and Sharita; nine grandchildren; two brothers, JoKaseem and Melvin; sister, Katrina; sister-in-law, Janice Johnston; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He also received several certificates for bringing awareness to numerous high schools. Raymond loved and adored his children and grandchildren, he was often found talking about them.
Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they have shared and the love they brought into our lives. We will always love you. Rest Well!
Service will be held 6:00 P.M., Friday, March 29, 2019 in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs, Sr.. The interment will be private.
