Raymond Michael Cruz "Mike", 32, was born September 1, 1982 in Indio, CA, the beloved son of Rene and Diana Cruz. Mike left to be with our Lord on Feb. 3, 2015. He graduated from La Quinta High School in 2000, where he played baseball, basketball, and ran cross country. Mike's love of baseball started at the age of 4 years old, where his baseball journey began along with his Dad. He played rec ball, winter ball, travel ball, high school ball, college ball, and also played in the military. He attended El Camino College in Torrance, CA, after high school, and later joined the United States Air Force, he was stationed in Ramstein, Germany for three years, where he was deployed to Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom the 332nd Expeditionary Mission Support Group and Operation Iraqi Freedom 407th Air Expeditionary Group. He was also deployed on 64th Expedition Security Forces Squadron, Saudi Arabia. He returned from the Air Force and attended San Diego State University and also volunteered as a baseball coach at San Diego Community College. Mike is survived by his parents, Rene and Diana Cruz of Indio, his sisters, Morgan and Marissa Cruz. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Leon Nava, and Irene Leon and paternal grandparents, Ray and Priscilla Cruz. He is also survived by several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends who loved him beyond words. Services will take place on Friday, February 13th, 2015 at the Apostolic Church at 46 601 Vargas Road in Indio. Viewing and visitation will be at 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Prayer service will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial will be at Coachella Valley Cemetery in Coachella with Forest Lawn in charge of arrangements.

I first met Michael Cruz on the baseball diamond when we were 10 years old after popping up a ball to short stop. He got under it, call it, but it hit him in the eye. Till this day I feel bad for taking second on him. We became close friends later that summer as we both made the Indio All star A team which created the most memorable moments of my life. I still have a photo of me warming up pitching between innings with Michael standing in the center field background getting ready to throw a ball. As we grew up together playing ball I always reminded him of that pop fly. We would always laugh. When Mike laughed he sounded just like his dad Rene, who I had the privilege of meeting, and to be coached by about life and the great game of baseball. Rene was always trying to teach us new big words. Every time I'm at the beach and see the waves crashing into the rocks or the shore I think of Rene and Mike. Mike told me it was one of Rene's favorite things in the world because through all the hard times it reminded him nothing is as powerful as Mother Nature and the creator of all of it. I will never forget you my friend. May God shed light upon the Cruz family forever.

Rene & Diane and family, our deepest sympathy for your family in these difficult times. I was so impressed with what Michael has done since we know him last at LaQuinta High School and all the ball games with the Momarch's and every other team he played on with our boys, Brandon and Brett. We are all brothers & families where baseball brought us together. My fondest memories are traveling with those young men to all the games. Rene, my boys still talk about their best coaches ever and your name always comes up as the most inspirational of all. Michael was a fierce competitor and great ball player, growing up we played on different teams him La Quinta me Coachella, it seemed like every Championship we met up against one another.
