Raymond Hickok Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 23, 2013.
They say a man's worth is measured by his wealth. Raymond Alexander Hickok leaves this world as the richest man ever born. Not of money, but because he was loved by all who knew him. Ray, 85 years old, living at 1824 Porter Road, Troy, Pa., passed away Saturday afternoon July 20, 2013, at the Troy Community Hospital after a fight with declining health.

Ray was born as the sixth in line of eight children to Arthur F. Hickok and Annalee (Wheeler) Hickok on the family farm on Porter Road in Troy, Pa. Ray worked on the family farm until he quit school in the 10th grade to join the armed services. After leaving the armed services, he married Merriel VanNoy of East Troy on Aug. 24, 1951. Ray and Merriel purchased a small farm on Porter Road, and began a family of their own. Among his proudest moments, Ray was baptized in February 1959 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He also was awarded his GED. In addition to farming, Ray engaged in hauling milk for local farmers, worked at a local factory and drove a bus for the Troy Area School District for over 30 years. Ray believed in a simple lifestyle, giving priority to family, friends and the worship of God. His recreation included spending time playing cards with family and friends, hunting, making maple syrup and playing with his dog, Frankie.

Raymond will be greatly missed by his loving wife of nearly 62 years, Merriel; nine children; and their families, Randall M. (Maureen) Hickok, Marette R. (Mark) Hamby, Eileen K. (David) Malosh, Shayla J. (Wayne) Chace, Brent T. (Carol) Hickok, Kevin D. (Joanna) Hickok, Gregory S. (Christina) Hickok, Denise J. (Jay) Andrus, Valerie J. Hickok; his two sisters, Janet Williams and Ada Miller; brother, Willis Hickok; grandchildren, Kristoffer, Matthew, Philip, Aaron, Erica, Hanna, Christopher, Corey, Chad, Chaunte, Chanel, Justin, Jasmine, Lily, Kelsey, Nathan, Kassidy, Lindsey; seven great-grandchildren.

Ray will be missed by his spiritual brothers and sisters in the Christian congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, friends and neighbors. Ray was predeceased by his parents, four siblings and one grandchild.

At the wishes of Ray, a memorial talk will be given at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses' located at 422 Old Mills Road, Towanda, PA 18848.

The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Dear Kevin, Joanna, Mark....to All of your family, we are very sorry to hear about your dad. It is a wonderful thing to have Jehovahs promises when someone we love so very much falls asleep in death. It makes us so much more angry at Satan for the hurt he causes and so much more determined to prove him a liar!!! please know our thoughts and deepest prayers are for you in the days ahead. May Jehovah continue to bless your wonderful family, which we are so privelaged to know. We love you all. Christian love forever

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Ray's family, I grew up knowing them all and remember most the years with Ray as my bus driver. Many memories riding that bus up and down Porter Road. God be with his family during this time.
