Born on August 26, 1923, in Canton, NC, son of the late James C. and Ethel Trull Rickards, he was a beloved father and grandfather who lived a life of many accomplishments. He was an Eagle Scout, and served as Scoutmaster of Canton Troop-1. Mr. Rickards served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, flying the B-17 Flying Fortress, and later was a pilot for Champion International Paper Company. He later pursued his passion for photography with the Professional Photographers Association in Milwaukee, WI, receiving many awards for his work. He worked in fine paper sales with Mac Paper Company in Jacksonville, FL, and retired from Henley Paper Company in Charlotte as sales manager in 1987. Retiring to Garden City, SC, Mr. Rickards continued to pursue many of his lifelong hobbies and interests including wood carving, carpentry, stamp and coin collecting, and gardening. He also enjoyed fishing and was an accomplished artist. He was an avid 'rock hound', and served as President of the Charlotte Gem and Mineral Club.
Mr. Rickards was probably best known for his keen wit and sense of humor, and for his appreciation of a good joke.
Mr. Rickards was a member of Charles M. Setzer Lodge # 693, AF&AM, and Scottish Rite Bodies, where he was a 32 degree Mason.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Peggy Fleming Rickards; daughters, Carol Neill and husband, Bob and Catherine Rickards; and son, Scott Rickards and wife, Charlotte; four grandsons, Drew Neill, Todd Neill, Ryan White and Nicholas Rickards.
