Reginald Davis Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Sep. 1 to Sep. 2, 2007.
DAVIS Reginald Edward DavisPassed peacefully away surrounded by family and friends on August 26, 2007 to join his wife of 53 years Joyce Ann. He missed her terribly, more than one could know.Reg was born in St. Boniface Manitoba on July 17, 1932 and spent most of his life in Vancouver and Sechelt. His career was in the mining industry where he was a successful, well respected, well known man of great character, honour and humour in his field. He leaves to mourn him his 4 children: Reginald (Susan) of Vancouver, Laura of the Turks & Caicos Islands, Daniel (Sue) of Calgary and Christian (Lucia) of West Vancouver; his 5 grandchildren: Carissa, Joshua, Leanna, Robert and Kelly; his siblings: Claudia, Gary, Marilyn and Ron plus many nieces and nephews too numerous to name. He leaves special thanks to his dear friends Dr. Dennis Rogers, Mrs. Ann Burdett, Mr. David Rogers and his grandson Josh; all of whom took care of him, each in their own special way.Reg was an adventurous man and despite his failing health embarked on a last sea voyage on his beloved yacht, the Pacific Wanderer this past July. While on route he left the boat at dock and managed to get VIP seats through his good pal, Art, to see the space shuttle take-off in Cape Canaveral. How wonderful considering he once said that when he was a kid it was thought impossible for anyone to ever get to the moon. ''...Yet I cannot tarry longer. The sea that calls all things unto her calls me, and I must embark. For to stay, though the hours burn in the night, is to freeze and crystallize and be bound in a mould.Fain would I take with me all that is here. But how shall I?A voice cannot carry the tongue and the lips that give it wings. Alone must it seek the ether. And alone and without his nest shall the eagle fly across the sun. Now when he reached the foot of the hill, he turned again towards the sea, and he saw his ship approaching the harbor, and upon her prow the mariners, the men of his own land. And his soul cried out to them, and he said:Sons of my ancient mother, you riders of the tides,How often have you sailed in my dreams. And now you come in my awakening, which is my deeper dream.Ready am I to go, and my eagerness with sails full set awaits the wind...''The Prophet, Kahlil Gibran
