To Reverend Dr.Carolyn Young and family, I am deeply saddened about the sudden loss of Reverend Young. When I first arrived in Spotsylvania County, he was my mentor at Chancellor Middle School. I often asked him for advice during my early years, and to this day, I am forever thankful for his energy and passion to connect with today's youth. What can one say in a few words about a man who meant a great deal to me? I will remember "Mr. Young" as I called him, and still do, as a kind and caring person who always took a personal interest in his students. Although I do think he was a little out of his element when it came to teaching computer math way back in 1984-1985 to my class, his sincerity on the subject and his commitment to us was always strong. The thing that struck me most about Mr. Young was his genuine concern not only for me as a student but also as a person and my future pursuits. That meant a great deal to me. I ended up in the computer/software field and I believe, surely in some small part, Mr. Young contributed to that.

I still remember him on more than one occasion humming a Fats Domino tune while the rest of us were engaged in a programming task he had given us. I told him that he and my dad, who is the same age, would get along very nicely since their choice of music was, apparently, impeccable. :-)

And who can forget his near signature line of "Youuuu Whoooo.... Class?!" to get our attention when the class was rowdy? I still use that saying as a tribute!! :-)

Thanks Mr. Young for always caring and I know I will see you again.
God Bless

It is never easy to lose a loved one from their earthly body. I had the privilege of meeting Dr Young many many years ago from him being my school James Farmer Scholar department leader at Courtland High. He was truly an asset to my education goals and pushed me further. He was a great person to talk to and he will be missed but always remembered.
