Poughkeepsie - Richard Allen Burlingame, 72, a lifelong Poughkeepsie resident died Thursday, July 28, 2011 at home with his family by his side.

Born in Poughkeepsie on July 29, 1938, he was the son of the late Chester and Olive Sylvia White Burlingame. He was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School.

Mr. Burlingame was a self employed auctioneer with the family business, Burlingame Auctions, for most of his life.

He was also a talented local singer and entertainer, who began his singing career with the Tri Tones, a local Poughkeepsie band, and more recently, spent a lot of his time singing in local nursing homes and restaurants.

Dick also enjoyed flying model airplanes especially with his late brother, Ed.

A member of the Grace Bible Chapel in Wappingers Falls, his faith was important to him. He also loved to sing gospel music at local churches

Richard proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1963.

On November 30, 1985, he married the former Georgia Roe in Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Burlingame survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Richard Burlingame Jr. of Lantana, FL, Mark Burlingame of Poughkeepsie, and Scott Burlingame of Poughkeepsie; two daughters, Sonya Newman and husband, Joseph Newman Jr., of Pleasant Valley, and Crystal Burlingame of Lantana, FL; six grandchildren, Alexandria Burlingame, Jessica Newman, Amanda Burlingame, and Amanda, Vanessa, and Andres Reyes; sisters-in-law, Evva Burlingame of Hyde Park, and Carol Daugavietis and husband, Doug, of Hyde Park; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Edwin Burlingame and Donald MacBrien.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm, Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Grace Bible Church, 158 Myers Corners Rd., Wappingers Falls.

Funeral services will be at 11 am, Tuesday, August 2nd at the church. Pastor Scott Harris will officiate.

In keeping with Richard's wishes, cremation will follow.
