Richard J Butler

Richard J. Butler, 67, of Crystal Lake, IL passed away on May 17, 2025 after a heroic battle with Pancreatic Cancer. His last day was spent outside surrounded by family, friends, and his dogs.

Rick was born May 6, 1958 in Oak Park, IL, the son of Edward Butler and Eleanor Smith. He graduated from Glenbrook South High School, then went on to Northern Illinois University, earning a degree in Industry and Technology. He then became an industrial boiler and water heater salesman spending the majority of his career with Lochinvar. He was named top salesman of the year on 3 occasions and was well known and well respected in the industry. He retired June 1, 2024.

Rick married Laura Novak on June 15, 1985. They had three children Craig, Kacie, and Kara. He was very excited to be the grandfather to three beautiful grandchildren Ellie and Luke Butler, and Sawyer Faurot.

Rick especially loved spending time in nature, fishing, singing along to loud music and spending time with his family.

Rick will always be remembered for his faith in God and his dry sense of humor which he kept till the very end. We couldn't have asked for a better spouse, father, grandfather and sibling, and will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

Remaining to cherish Rick's memory are spouse, Laura Novak; children, Craig (Meighan) Butler, Kacie (Chris) Faurot, and Kara (Zac) Christman; grandchildren, Ellie Butler, Sawyer Faurot, and Luke Butler; sister, Pamela Lapczynski; and twin brother, Robert Butler.

Preceding Rick in death are parents, Edward Butler and Eleanor Smith.

An open house Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 22, 2025 at Pleasant Valley Nature Preserve in Woodstock from 11 am-3 pm.
