Richard Carter, Obituary
Richard was born in Staunton, Virginia, to Jean and Richard Carter, Sr. on August 13, 1949. He graduated from Fort Defiance High School in 1967. He married Susan Carter on August 6, 1994, in Staunton, Virginia. Prior to retirement, he was the general manager of Country Cookin' in Staunton, Virginia. He was a veteran of both the Navy and the Coast Guard.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents, his son, Michael Carter and his grandson, Jackson Hewitt.
Richard is survived by his wife of 22 years, Susan Carter; children, Kelly Howdyshell and husband, Michael of Middlebrook, Virginia, Kristen Powell and husband, Blaine of Staunton, Virginia, Richard Carter III of Raphine, Virginia, Christopher Hewitt and wife, Rachel of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, Patrick Hewitt of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; siblings, Barry Carter, Kim Caracofe and husband, Ronnie, Sharron Mahitka and husband, John; grandchildren Harrison Hewitt, Amber Carter and Justin Carter; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at 11:00 am at Waynesboro Church of Christ, 227 Bookerdale Rd, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980 with Michael Jones officiating.
The family of Richard wishes to extend their deepest thanks to the many nurses, doctors, and caregivers at UVA and the UVA Dialysis Centers at Augusta Health and Staunton for the outstanding care and compassion they have shown him over the past several years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes Stuarts Draft Chapel, Stuarts Draft, Virginia.
