CONNEAUT — Richard C. Clancy, age 82, of Conneaut, died Saturday afternoon, July 18, 2009, at home with his family by his side.Richard was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Patrick and Sophia (Davis) Clancy.While in high school, Richard worked on the weekends at the Nickel Plate Railroad.  Following graduation from Conneaut High School in 1945, he went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Dick was stationed overseas in Germany during the European Theater. Following an honorable discharge, Dick returned to Conneaut and worked at the Nickel Plate Railroad as a laborer and painter. He then went on to work at the Conneaut Can Company, the Conneaut Telephone Company for a short time as a lineman, General Electric in Jefferson as a material supervisor and later retired from the City of Conneaut Waste Water Treatment Plant. Richard was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Conneaut Knights of Columbus, where he held various positions, including Past Grand Knight, the Leo J. Cane Assembly Fourth Degree and a former Faithful Navigator. Dick was also a member and former Past Commander of the V.F.W.He was a former C.L.Y.O. little league coach and he enjoyed golfing, swimming, bowling and sports. He was an avid Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cav's fan. Dick loved to spend time with his family and friends. He especially loved watching his son and grandchildren play sports.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward Clancy; and an infant sister, Mary Ellen Clancy.Richard is survived by his wife, Mildred C. (Kirisitz) Clancy, whom he married Nov. 13, 1948; a son, Patrick and Cheryl Clancy of Conneaut; two daughters, Kathleen and Michael Smith of Conneaut and Ann Marie and Robert Carr of Kinsman, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Kyle Clancy and Karl Clancy of Conneaut, Kristen (John) Offenbacher of Gaithersburg, Md., Andrew Smith of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Roxanna Poole of Maine, Robert (Christina) Carr and David (Jennifer) Carr, all of Warren, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Abigail Offenbacher, Bobby Carr, Emma Marie Carr and Sydney Carr; and a brother, James Clancy of Conneaut.Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 22nd, at St. Mary Church, 480 State St., Conneaut, with Father Raymond Thomas and Father John Summers of St. Mary and St. Frances Cabrini Parish, Concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut, where the American Legion Honor Squad will conduct Military Honors. Calling Hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 21st, at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut, where the Leo J. Cane Assembly Fourth Degree will be present as honor guards and the Conneaut Council #627 Knights of Columbus will conduct Prayer Services at 7:30 p.m.Memorial contributions may be made to the East Conneaut Firefighters Association or charity of one's choice. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.Obituary and condolences at www.raisianfuneralhome and starbeacon.com.
