My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends, and especially the family of Rich at their time of loss. I was a classmate of Rich and clearly remember him as being one of the good guys. After reading all the comments left by his friends and family, it was clear to see that Rich remained one of the good guys his entire life, and will be a great loss not only to his family but the community at large.

I am saddened to hear of his passing, T. J. Crerand (SHC 1971)

Dear Vince, Rob, Dan, Mrs Dabecco, and the Extended Dabecco Family,
This is beyond sad; incomprehensible. Last week I was actually at a neighbor's home and we were playing ping pong and I proceeded to tell them how Rich and I used to play ping pong for hours on end, while we were going to school and working together. It's been 32 years but I think and speak of you all frequently and will never forget how wonderful it was having you all in my life. I am a better person because of that. I think Rich represented the best God had to offer. Again, my most sincere condolences. Your Faith and strength both individually and collectively will see you through this

Thank you Rich for the childhood memories we shared from gradeschool to high school to the young adults group at St. Catherines. I will cherish them always. We did have some funny times together. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. My deepest sympathy, Stephanie (Giegucz) Stumpf

Dabecco Family...you have my deepest sympathy in this time of sorrow. I worked with Richie at MSA years ago, and we have remained friends for 37 years. He was a true, loyal, and loving friend, and will be greatly missed. I will remember all of our picnics, camping trips, ski trips, how we taught each other to ice skate, all the concerts we attended, and the caring person that he was! You will all remain in my prayers... God Bless Richie!
With heavy hearts and tear filled eyes
family and friends bid you goodbye.
Gathered this day united in sorrow,
yet sure in faith of a brighter tomorrow.

Although you've gone, we feel you near.
You are so loved by everyone here.
You touched our lives in numerous ways.
and brightened many of our days.

Sharing memories of time with you
is something that we love to do.
We laugh, we cry, with joy and pain.
Goodbye for now, until we meet again

The Rich I knew

I enjoyed being around Rich and I learned from Rich. He was an example of how a selfless and exemplary person can conduct himself. To say that he was altruistic was certainly a fact, but it goes much deeper. Rich was rarely seen in the streets and business's of Beechview that he was not furthering a cause that he believed in, a cause that frequently benefited others, not he.

The ever present raffle tickets sticking up beyond the pocket in his dress shirt, he could always wet your fancy to take a chance at a Steelers ticket or a basket of cheer. If you were not the gambling type, you could simply purchase one of the items seen on the counters of many of our business's that Rich sold to raise money, always for worthy causes, always about others, never about himself.

I served with Rich for many years on the Beechview Merchants Association. Rich always came, albeit sometimes late, and you could be sure that when he was late, it was because of his involvement in the many local causes that he gave of his time, energy and intelligence to so freely and generously.

Rich knew everyone in the community and knew everything that was going on in the community, and unlike so many people who take issue with this person or that person, Rich took issue with no one and no one took issue with Rich, his intentions and actions were the purest of anyone I have ever known and many people agreed that his character was second to none long before we learned of his illness.

When the news was delivered to the community that Rich was very ill, he delivered the news truthfully and without embellishment or in a manner designed to evoke sympathy.
Regardless of his inner burden and turmoil that I can only imagine that he suffered, his persona in the community remained the same.

So handsome was this man that the loss of hair from treatment did not detract from his appearance and his approach to the community during the worst of times remained direct, upbeat and positive. He continued longer than most would have to attend the community outings that were so important to him.

Community is the word that keeps coming up for me when I think of Rich, community oriented, community driven, and community strong. That describes him to my mind. We are a lesser community without him now but it should be noted that I have no doubt that he would want us to step up to the task of assuming his role, perhaps not alone, but collectively, as the community he had always strived to make better.

Rich, I will always miss you and the excellence that you exuded, the example you were for the young in our community, but also the old. I learned from you and I am better to have known you, we all are. Rest in peace my friend.
