Richard L. Everts

Dec. 07, 1930 - Jul. 23, 2017

GRANGER - Richard Lawrence “Dick” Everts, age 86 of Granger, passed away at his Summer home on Shavehead Lake in Vandalia, Michigan at 11:15 pm Sunday, July 23, 2017. Dick was born December 7, 1930 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Hiram and Alma (Dittmar) Everts. On April 29, 1950, he married the love of his life, Betty Viscek at Zions Evangelical & Reformed Church in South Bend. A true love story, Betty and Dick recently celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Betty survives, along with their children Debra (Jim) Whetstone of Granger, Richard Lee (Dorothy) Everts of Franklin, Ohio, Patricia (Steven) Konstant of Greenville, South Carolina and Randal (Laura) Everts of Englewood, Florida. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his brothers Dean and George Everts.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Osceola with Charles Whetstone presiding. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Dick was employed for over 30 years with the US Postal Service as a clerk, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Shavehead Lake, traveling to Florida, bowling in mixed doubles league with his wife Betty, and eating sweets; especially cookies!

Dick remained active throughout his life and enjoyed playing euchre, ping pong, shuffleboard and golf, but most of all, Dick will be remembered as the cornerstone of his family. His faith in the Lord was strong, and he showed his compassion to others through his generous and giving nature. It was said that Dick “never met a stranger.”

In his memory, donations may be made to the Great Lakes Hospice online www.greatlakescaring.com. To leave an online condolence for the Everts family, light a virtual candle in Dick's memory, or to view his online video tribute, please visit our website at www.Cruzfamilyfh.com.

Betty and Debbie, I just learned of Dick's passing. I'm so sorry for your loss. Dick was one of my most favorite men on earth. He "taught" me shuffleboard and euchre. Really thought of him like a father. He was a wonderful man. Love, Beth Brindley
