Richard Fiske Obituary
He was a principal of Ravenswood Homes of Cheshire for the past 48 years. Under his innovative leadership, he developed and built more than 2,500 homes in Connecticut, as well as multiple commercial properties. Fiske was instrumental in the establishment of Temple Beth David in Cheshire, served as its first president and remained a indispensable part of temple like. He was a dedicated member of the Jewish Community Center, as well as the New Haven Rowing Club, and the UVM Alumni Association. His zest for life was evident in his many activities and interests: sailing, skiing, biking, running, traveling, and most of all, rowing.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Beatrice and Theodore Fiske. She is survived by his loving wife, Betsy (Gandelman); his children, Gary Tracey of Cheshire, Dean and Tracey of Bethany, Ruth and Sam Ratner of Cheshire and Darcy and Peter Hoberman of Hoboken, N.J.; also survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie, Max, Michael, Jillian, Spencer and Matthew; as well as his brothers, William Fiske, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Barry Fiske of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; and many loving nieces, nephews, and family members.
Funeral services at the Jewish Community Center, 460 Amity Road, Woodbridge on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. Interment to follow. A period of mourning will be observed at 26 Inwood Road, Woodbridge beginning on Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m.; Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m.; Friday from 1 to 3:30 p.m.; and concluding on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. A minyan service will be held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to Temple Beth David, 3 S. Main St., Cheshire; VNA of Southern Connecticut, 24 Scott St., Hamden or the charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements in care of Robert E. Shure Funeral Home, New Haven.

Betsy, Dean & Family,
I just learned of Dick's death and am saddened with this news. I have such fond memories of him and all the folks at Ravenswood and enjoyed my time there, though years ago. My thoughts, prayers and blessings with you all.

Sincere sympathy to the Fiske family. I am very sorry for your loss. I hardly knew Mr. Fiske, but bought property from him years ago. He was kind and honest and will be missed in the Cheshire community.

We are so saddened to learn of Dick's tragic passing, and want to extend our heartfelt condolences to you all.
Dick was the builder of our home in Cheshire, where we lived from 1968-98, and we were co-founders of TBD in 1968 where we shared many of the struggles and good times in getting the Temple off the ground.

Dearest Betsy and Family,
I am so very sorry for your pain during this sad and tragic time. My heart aches for you. I am hoping that the love and light I am (and have been) sending to surround you, will help you to cope, as you grieve the loss of your beloved Dick.
I will never forget the incredible, hilarious and warm speech he gave at Darcy and Peter's Wedding. It showed what a special man he truly was.
I was also so touched by his having the honor, he so deserved, of walking Darcy down the Isle with Elliot. I will try to attach a picture of that moment.
