Richard Funke Obituary
On December 30, 2016, RICHARD H. FUNKE, JR., beloved husband of the late Hazel L. Funke (nee Wright); devoted father of Capt. Richard H. Funke, III, USN (Ret.) and his wife, Sandy, and the late Carol Kregloh; dear father-in-law of Peter Z. Kregloh; loving grandfather of Katie Pratt (Wade), Eric Kregloh (Diana), and Carolyn Funke. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at HARRY H. WITZKE'S FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10 am at First Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Druid Ridge Cemetery. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Rich, You were a stalwart of engineering prowess throughout your life, following in the footsteps of your father. Cool under pressure, confident, competent and knowledgeable all describe Mitscher's chief engineer. We were within six month of decommissioning and Rich squeezed over 36 knots out of the old beast. Not many could ever dream of such a feat. Your expertise and example will be perpetuated by all those who knew you.
