Richard Glenn Gallaher, 85 of Brownsdale, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016 at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield. 

He was born Oct. 26, 1930, in Lansing, the son of William and Leone (Davis) Gallaher. He attended school in Lansing and graduated from Austin High School in 1949. On Aug. 20, 1950, Richard was united in marriage to Mary Ann Swanson at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell. The couple raised three children. Richard served with Navy as a torpedo man from 1952 to 1956 with the rank of Seaman First Class. After his discharge, Richard was employed by Hormel Foods first as a buyer and later as a foreman in the rendering freezers, retiring in 1986. 

He loved to hunt and fish, spending more than 60 years in the Northland around the Leech Lake area. He was a member of the Brownsdale Fire Department for more than 10 years, a member of American Legion and VFW. He was an active member of Crane Chapel where he ushered and held several offices.  Richard also served on the Hormel Credit Union Committee.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Gallaher of Brownsdale; three children, Cheré (Steven) Rinehart of Utah, Grant (Mary) Gallaher of Rochester and Paul (Kelly) Gallaher of Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren, John (Renee) Rinehart, James (Kristin) Rinehart, Amber Gallaher, Molly Gallaher, Cody Gallaher and Kirsten Gallaher; four great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends, including cousins, Donna Wicherski and Donald Gallaher. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Leone Gallaher; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lavonne Gallaher; a granddaughter, Ashley, and a daughter-in-law, Sheila.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Crane Community Chapel, with the Rev. Dale Christiansen officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216 at Greenwood Cemetery near Brownsdale. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at Crane Chapel, and will continue for one hour prior to the service Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Crane Chapel or Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch.
