Richard Johnston

JOHNSTON , Richard (Rick) William 1947 - 2009 Rick Johnston of East Coulee, AB left us suddenly on May 2, 2009 at 61 years of age. Leaving to mourn him is his loving wife and best friend Lydia (who Rick said always made life interesting); his brother Michael (Dorothy) of Calgary; his sisters, Cheryl (Pat) of Auckland, NZ; Shelley of Crossfield; brother Shaun of Airdrie, AB; daughters, Cindy (Mark) and Coleen (Herb) both of Calgary; Cheryl (Dan) of Surrey, BC and Linda (Allan) of Sterling, AB; and all his precious grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Rick spent all his adult life in law enforcement, starting off as a military policeman in the RCAF and later with the army reserves. He spent twenty-five years with the Calgary Police Service working in patrol, K-9 and in the training division where his greatest joy was instructing young recruits. Rick ended his service as a driving instructor, retiring in 1992. His next career was as a Peace Officer with the County of Starland in Drumheller where he worked until his passing. Rick spent his winters in Yuma, AZ with Lydia and his many friends. Not to be forgotten are his three four-legged furry babies, Lacie, Emmie and Ellie. Rick will be sadly missed by all his friends and colleagues that he met over the years. Funeral Services will be held at PIERSON'S Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 - 17 Avenue S.E.) on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Rick's name may be made to the Calgary Humane Society (SPCA), 4455 - 110 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2C 2T7 or to a children's charity of your choice.
