Koella, Richard Adolf – age 89, of Knoxville passed away Tuesday, July 17 after a courageous battle cancer . Dick was the sole surviving son of Ernest Koella and Mary Carolina Koella. A graduate of the McCallie School and the University of Tennessee, and a World War II veteran of the US Army, European theater, Dick retired as an officer of Rockford Manufacturing, the oldest manufacturing concern in the state. He was married fifty eight years to the former Angelyn Donaldson of Knoxville, Aunt Angie. A lifelong member of New Providence Presbyterian Church, Maryville, and the Republican Party, Dick was the first Mayor of his hometown, Rockford Tennessee. He was a longtime chapter advisor and past president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, Tennessee Kappa chapter . He was "Uncle Dick" to three generations of Koellas, Donaldsons, Vestals, Austins, and Kennerlys among them a host of Volunteers and a smattering of Vanderbilt graduates. A memorial service will be held at New Providence Presbyterian Church, Maryville, at 2pm Monday July 23 with receiving of friends to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Donaldson Library at Webb School of Knoxville, New Providence Presbyterian Church, or the Mitt Romney presidential campaign.
