Dear Barbara and Family,
I am sorry to hear of Richard’s passing. You have my sincere sympathy. I was on the faculty with Richard at Connelley Vo-Tech H.S. for a number of years long ago. I cherish those years and our friendship ever since. He was an excellent teacher and I was proud to have him as a friend. I will remember him in my prayers.

Barbara, Anne, Amy and Jonathan,
Accept my deepest sympathies on the passing of your loving husband and father - a man whom I will remember fondly as always warm, pleasant, interesting and welcoming. As I am currently in Israel, I will not be able to attend the funeral and shiva. Please know that my thoughts are with you and the family at this difficult time. May Richard's memory be a blessing and an inspiration to all who survive him.

To The Familes: As a former student at Gladstone, I worked closely with Mr. Linder as Editor of the school newspaper and he never ceased to amaze me with his knowledge of local history and lore. His sense of humor kept many of us in stitches and his guidance provided many a successful career by many. At our recent 40th Reunion in Sept., we were honored to have Vera Weiss attend, but we made special arrangements to get Mr. Linder his certificate, which was hand carried to the home, which really made HIS day as well as ours. He was truly an inspiration to us, and he will be missed.

Dear Barbara & Family ...
It is with much sadness that I read in today's Post-gazette of the passing of my long-time 8th Armored Division friend Richard. Please accept my and my Wife Alberta's … Sincerest Sympathies.
Our friendship goes a long way back to 1944 when we 'discovered' each other while in the Service of our Country during WWII. Along with Dick, I was (like many others our age) a 'homesick' member of the EIGHTH ARMORED DIVISION OF WWII at then Camp Polk, LA … far away from our Pittsburgh homes; although I was from West Homestead at the time. Somehow I found Dick's address and we began corresponding ... mostly to console ourselves, I guess! We became fast friends over the 64 years we’ve known each other!
As you know, Richard was in Company ‘C’ of the 58th Armored Infantry Battalion … while I was in Headquarters Company of the 7th Armored Infantry Battalion.
It was a pleasure being associated with him working to bring the 10th Reunion of the 8th Armored Division Association to Pittsburgh in 1959. Then once again in 1990. We shocked everyone by having a genuine US Army TANK on display in front of the William Penn Hotel in 1959!
I could go on and on as to so many pleasant memories shared between us as the years rolled by. [Dick being a history teacher in the Pittsburgh School District for 33 years and me being employed by TWA for 37 years at the THEN Greater Pittsburgh Airport.]
Alberta & I always enjoyed receiving post cards from all parts of the World, including Mexico, Singapore and … even Russia!
Sincerely … Ed & Alberta Schotting
