Richard's self-written obituary in the LA Times was so inspiring to me. As I am approaching the end of my life, I have often thought, "What will be written in my obituary?" He inspired me to try to write my own, telling of the things, the people, and the events in my life that mattered most to me.
I wish I had known him. He sounds like a delightful, and interesting man.

What a FABULOUS tribute to a man, a stranger to me, whom I wish I had known. Maybe, I did? We are also an Irish family. My father was born in 1930 ..his father was directly from Ireland. Settled in Santa Monica..raised 6 kids, all born in Santa Monica. I am a 73.5 yr old transplant to Venice in the early 60's. We too have had annual vacations to Bass Lake with several friends since 1975. Oh, the memories!....I'll bet our paths have passed in the water and in town! So many t-shirts from the gift shop to say the least..(greatest owners were The Cooleys)...Bingo and cocktails at the Pine Lodge...movies at the theater..Bass Lake Reality. TWIN Lake boat ramps..Duces' Bar and Grill....I'm sure we have met.
I will be honored to attend your Father's Service, on my youngest Son's Birthday.. and I won't take up space for your family and friends! My husband will be 80 next week..I don't think he can make this journey..he would love to recognize your Father and his family. Know that I will be there! Blessing you all!
