Richard McLellan Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Nov. 7, 2008.
McLELLAN - RICHARD WAYNE (Rick) It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father, Grampa Rick, Papa and Friend on November 2nd, 2008 at Powell River, B.C. due to aggressive Cancer. Rick was born December 10th,1943 and grew up in Vancouver, B.C. graduating from King Ed and furthering his studies at BCIT where he became a Trades Carpenter. As a young man he greatly enjoyed his association with the Vancouver Blue Bombers Football team, both as a player and later on as coach, and also enjoyed teaching a Transit and Level Course for 12 years at BCIT Night Studies. After a few years of marriage we moved to Surrey where he built our family home and raised our children. In his spare time he got involved with Softball B.C. and loved being a coach and then travelling and teaching Coaching Clinics for them. Rick worked in the construction industry as a Superintendent for many years, retiring to Powell River in 2002. We enjoyed travels to many places in Mexico thanks to the first Mexicana Slow Pitch tournament while the kids were in elementary and high school. Later we travelled ourseslves to Greece, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Gibralter and Hawaii. Rick also loved driving and we got a few road trips under our belts especially our last trip in February of this year travelling to Arizona with Dave and Lyn then continuing on alone to New Mexico and Texas experiencing life as a snowbird for the first time. Rick was predeceased by his Mother Elma Mclellan and his in-laws Jack and Dorothy Siddall. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Mim (Miriam), his daughters Krista (Bryon) Mander of Surrey, B.C.,Terri (Aaron) Cramb of Powell River, B.C. and his only son Thomas of Surrey, B.C., his beloved grandchildren Hannah (6), Marcus (4) and Tylor Cramb (3 months) and Caelan (4) and Brendan Mander (20 months) who brought much happiness into his life. He is also survived by sister-in-law Rachelle Siddall and his brother Gordon McLellan (and family) Okotoks, AB, also many friends as well as our little dog Pepper. I would like to thank our dear friends Dave and Lyn Gilles for being with us in Comox when we weren't sure if Rick was going to make it then the frequent visits to Powell River and all your emails and phone calls, also Colleen and Barry Brown for your visits to see Rick, and continual support. Rick's dear friend Martin Murray for his visits in Rick's final days, Rob, Bente and Don, always keeping in touch and TO MY 3 ROCKS Krista,Terri and Tom for dropping everything to be with us after that phone call on the 27th of May. The whole week in Comox of not knowing if he was going to make it and the continual visits to see us up here in Powell River. To my 2 sons-in-law Bryon and Aaron for supporting our girls with patience, love and understanding. I am the lucky one to have all of you in my life to give me all the love and strength to go on without your father..You have no idea how much I love you. Also my dear sister Rachelle, you being a nurse gave us so much information and guidance. No funeral service as per Rick's request. A cleberation of life will be held at Kane's Sports Bistro, Powell River, B.C., Sunday November 16 from 12:00 - 4:00. In lieu of flowers a donation to either the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in our precious Brendan Mander's name or the Powell River Cat Scan in Rick's name. He is on his final Secondary Road - enjoying the ride and at Eternal Peace... love you hon..mim's.

RIP Rick,
I have just returned from a celebration of your life at Kane's, your favorite place to eat in Powell River.
You had a huge amount of friends and family there to wish you "God Speed" on your journey.
The testimonials were beautiful and I learned more about you there that I knew during our brief encounter.
Take care, and save me some suds where ever you may be.....

Rick, You fought the good fight & now you are receiving the peace you so richly deserve. Thank you for all the wonderful years of friendship. Your family was so lucky to have you for a Dad & Grandpa - the time you spent with them, the joy of your grandchildren. Mim & you had so many wonderful holidays together & I am sure that those memories will help her through this time. We are going to miss you but we will NEVER forget the fun-filled times we spent together. R.I.P. my friend.
