ANDERSON -- Richard Spain Vaughan Jr., 61, of 2606 Winding Brook, Anderson, husband of Jean Willbanks Vaughan, died Monday, May 13, 2002 in the Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born July 1, 1940 in Darlington, he was the son of the late Richard Spain Vaughan and the late Margaret Allen Vaughan. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina Law School and received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1967. He was a practicing attorney for 35 years. He was a member of the American Bar Association; S.C. Trial Lawyers Association and the South Carolina Bar Association. He was a member and past president of the Anderson County Gamecock Club. He was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he also served as a teacher for the Covenant Men's Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Willbanks Vaughan of the home; a son, Richard Spain Vaughan III of Greer; two daughters, Kelly Elizabeth Vaughan of Anderson and Carolyn Briggs Vaughan of Anderson; and two sisters, Margaret V. Garges of Hartsville and Theresa V. McCall of Sumter.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the New Covenant Presbyterian Church, directed by the Rev. David Rountree. Burial will be in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson. The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at the residence at other times.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the New Covenant Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 301 Simpson Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or to Calvary Home for Children, 511 West Whitner Street, Anderson, SC 29621.
The McDougald Funeral Home of Anderson is in charge of arrangements.
