Robert Alloca Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 30, 2025.
Robert Alloca, 93, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, in Sarasota, Florida. Born on January 5, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, Robert lived a remarkable life defined by devotion to family, groundbreaking professional achievements, and deep faith.

A trailblazer from the start, Robert was the first in his family to attend college, earning a full scholarship to Cooper Union. His academic success laid the foundation for an extraordinary career in aerospace engineering that would leave an indelible mark on American history.

Robert played a pivotal role in the United States space program during its most defining era. His work contributed directly to the development of the Apollo spacesuit, Lunar Module (LEM), and Apollo space rover. He was present in the control room for many of the early Apollo missions-including Apollo 11-witnessing firsthand humanity's first steps on the moon. When the world held its breath during Apollo 13's crisis, Robert was among those called upon with the now-famous words: "Houston, we have a problem." His expertise helped guide the astronauts safely back to Earth. One could truly say that Robert helped put a man on the moon.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Robert's heart belonged to his family. He shared 70 devoted years of marriage with his beloved wife Lucille Alloca. Together they raised five children and were blessed with eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His love for Lucille and their growing family was unwavering and evident in every aspect of his life.

Robert also had a passion for travel-a love he passed down through generations. Whether exploring new places or sharing stories from past adventures, he inspired those around him to embrace discovery and curiosity.

A man of strong Catholic faith, Robert often spoke of "the Good Lord," sharing his spiritual convictions with his family and community alike. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life and remained central until his final days.

Robert Alloca leaves behind a legacy of innovation, love, and integrity. His family is deeply proud of the full and meaningful life he led-a life that touched not only those closest to him but also helped shape history itself.

May his memory bring comfort and inspiration to all who knew him. A Memorial Mass will be held on August 16, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM at St Martha Catholics Church 200 N Orange Ave
