Robert (Bob) Stern Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 6, 2025.
Robert (Bob) Stern, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. Born on March 26th, 1945, in Lincoln, NE to Robert Sr and Dorothy Stern.

Bob graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964. Bob met the love of his life, Kathy and they were married on December 23rd, 1967 while Bob was home between his two tours as a Seabee in Vietnam. Bob was known for his work ethic and always lending others a hand when in need. He was an avid swimmer throughout his life and had a passion for the outdoors, cars, and working with his hands. Bob loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports and compete in various activities. Bob was incredibly outgoing and would make friends everywhere he went.

While we are deeply saddened by his loss, we are grateful he is no longer suffering from his battle with Parkinson's. In lieu of a funeral, a celebration of life will be held at a later date in the spring of 2025.

Bob is survived by his wife, Kathy (Cook) Stern, and their children: Jennifer (Gary) Wedding and Josh Stern. He was a proud and loving grandfather to three grandchildren and a great granddaughter: Cody (Marjorie) Wedding, Alex (Brianna) Wedding, Abi (Aaron) Scheibe, and Willow Wedding. He is also survived by his sister Sherron (David) Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr and Dorothy Stern, and his cherished canine companion, Bella.

I name is Greg Mack I´m so sorry that Bob passed away recently. I´ve thought about him often over the years. I served with him in Viet Nam. We were in the Navy Sea Bees. Our Battalion was MCB-1. Bob and I were both injured while building observation towers in the jungles near Da Nang. Also we were in the mountains north of Da Nang building bridges the Viet Cong were always blowing up. Several times under sniper fire. He was much braver than myself, and never backed down from any situation or danger we encountered.
We were in Kah Shan, Gio Lyn, Con Tien which was the DMZ northern most out post together.
I don know how we even ever made it home. I just hope you folks had several good years with Bob.
I´m saddened having never been in contact after our military service. I just never knew how to contact home over the years.
My name is Greg Mack, I´m 79 year old and live on 1-Lyman Ave, Waverly, NY14892
Know he must be in HEAVEN so many other great people. We both learned to pray in those Viet Nam jungles.
