Robert Dawes Memoriam

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Sep. 27, 2008.
A TRIBUTE ROBERT RAPHAEL DAWES Robert passed away a year ago, on September 25, 2007 in White Rock, B.C. His wife, Lynne Pitts, and children Christopher, Vincent and Renee wish to pay tribute to this very special person in our lives. Robert was born in Toronto in 1930 and settled in Vancouver in the 1950s. He was a very hard working independent retailer in downtown Vancouver and eventually ended up on Robson Street where he really wanted to be along with the many other immigrants who came from Europe in the 1950s. He excelled in jewellery designing and made it his career for 40 years. He loved the retail trade and the unique shops and shop owners who became his friends on the Street. When he was not working Robert's love of fine English literature, poetry and the arts and live theatre kept him active and well travelled. He had a very special love of Shakespeare and it brought out the best in his character with his unique sense of humour and his own ability to act upon command. We miss those performances! Robert had a great deal of compassion for the struggling independent shopkeeper. He never forgot his roots and had an old fashioned almost forgotten kind of integrity that is especially remembered by all who did business with him. We wish to extend our deepest appreciation to the Peace Arch Hospital's intensive care unit for giving all they could possibly give during his illness. Lovingly Robert you are remembered forever for the joy you brought your family and friends, and by your wife who misses the very best friend she's ever had.

This may be late, but I'm sorry for your loss. I was only a child, but I have good memories of Robert. He was kind, and had a sense of humour. I believe if I would have been older, he would have made a good friend.
