ROBERT L. ELSTON

One of the "Greatest Generation"

Robert Lee Elston, born June 5, 1917, was just a few months short of 99 years. He was raised in Arkansas City, Kansas, where he lived through graduation from Arkansas City High School in 1936.

He was a graduate of the University of Tulsa. He received a personally written recommendation from General MacArthur to get into law school after the war. He graduated in 1950 and later attended Harvard Business School, Cambridge, MA, as a member of the 46th Advanced Management Program in 1964. He was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association for over 60 years, American Bar Association, and the American Petroleum Institute, USA.

Bob was a decorated officer in WWII where he served as Aide to Gen. Douglas MacArthur, General Headquarters, Southwest Pacific Area. As a captain, he was awarded the Bronze Star among other awards.

After receiving his law degree he had a successful career that led him to the presidency of the 7th largest oil company in the world. His business career was with Sun Oil Company, Sinclair International Oil and Atlantic Richfield, where he attained the position of president of Sinclair International Oil Company and later vice president of Atlantic Richfield Far East Exploration, New York, NY.

During his career he lived in Midland, Houston, Tulsa, NYC and Singapore.

Bob was a resident of Green Valley, AZ, from January 1979 to January 1995. He was a past director and officer of the Country Club of Green Valley and a director, treasurer and secretary of the Board of Directors of Community Water Company of Green Valley.

He resided in Prescott, AZ, from January 1995 to July 2008 when he moved to Vi at Highlands Ranch, CO, to be nearer to his two sons in the Denver area.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Cherye Bell, Coppell TX; three sons, Arthur S. Elston, Ronald H. Elston, Denver, CO and Robert L. Elston, Jr. of Tulsa, OK.
