SELINSGROVE - Dr. Robert A. Grubb, 83, of Picnic Lane, passed away following a lengthy illness on Saturday morning, May 5, at his home. A son of the late Herman Ulsh Grubb and Evelyn (Ford) Grubb, he was born April 15, 1924, in Liverpool. In 1986, he married the former June Walter Derrick who survives.
Dr. Grubb was a 1942 graduate of Bloomsburg High School. He took his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Maryland and was a 1952 graduate of the University of Maryland Medical School.
A veteran of World War II, Dr. Grubb served in the Army Air Corps and attained the rank of Captain as a B-26 Bomber Pilot.
As a physician, he operated medical practices, first in Berlin, Md., and later in Selinsgrove, retiring there in 1985. He founded the Doctor's Convalescent Center, now known as The Manor at Penn Village in Selinsgrove.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Dr. Grubb was a member of the American Medical Association; a member of the American Legion Post 25 and the VFW Post 6631, both of Selinsgrove, and the Susquehanna Valley Country Club. He was a former member of the Selinsgrove Borough Council and past president of the Central Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce. He was co-founder of the Selinsgrove Community Swimming Pool and former director of the Penn Valley Airport Authority. Dr. Grubb also served as Snyder County Coroner. He was an investor in several local manufacturing companies and businesses.
His hobbies included golfing and flying. He was a friend of Susquehanna University and the University of Maryland Medical Center, and his philanthropy touched many others.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Richard Grubb of Selinsgrove, and John Grubb of Duxbury, Mass.; two daughters, Susan Grubb Jackson of Millersville, Md., and Barbara Grubb Obrecht of Severna Park, Md.; two step-sons, Stuard Derrick of Provincetown, Mass., and James Derrick of Waynesboro; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandson; one brother, Richard H. Grubb of York; and his first wife, Romaine Shumaker Grubb of Severna Park, Md.
Visitors may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., in Selinsgrove, where a funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. James W. Grubb officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in the Union Cemetery, Liverpool following the services.
Contributions in Dr. Grubb's memory may be made to SUN Home Hospice, P.O. Box 232, Northumberland, PA 17857. or to the American Lung Association of Central PA, 264 Market St., Sunbury, PA 17801.
