Robert Harrison Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 7, 2009.
ROBERT ROSS HARRISON was born in Lawton, OK in 1942 to Robert R. and Dorothy Ross Harrison and passed away on September 2, 2009. He was the great grandson of Leslie Price Ross, the first mayor of Lawton. Ross lived with his family in the U.S. occupied zone in Germany after WWII and then lived in Oklahoma City before the family settled in Orange County, CA. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in drama and enlisted in the Army, attending Officers Candidate School in Lawton. Ross was stationed in Germany with the 2nd Battalion, 41st Artillery Division, and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1969. He attended University of Oklahoma Law School and graduated with honors and Order of the Coif. Ross was recruited and hired by Baker Botts in Houston where he became a partner practicing labor and employment law, later moving his practice to Saccomanno & Clegg. In retirement, Ross devoted his time to relearning the guitar, cooking with his wife, Linda, raising several bearded collies, and being proud of his son, Byrne, who followed in his footsteps, working in both law and theatre. In addition to his wife, son, and first wife, Margaret Harrison, he leaves behind his brother, Jon Patrick Harrison and wife Nancy, his sister Sylvia Chambers, numerous nieces and nephews, and innumerable friends. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 9 at 11:15 in the chapel of Levy Funeral Directors, 4525 Bissonnet, Bellaire. Honorary pallbearers will be: Byrne Ross Harrison, Richard R. Brann, Jack Duckworth, Jay Dushkin, Frank W.R. Hubert, Jr., Lou Powers, Walter Pye, Gerald J. Spieth, Jonathan R. Spieth, and Rev. Jim Turley. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the University of Oklahoma, School of Drama through the development office at (866) 321-1174, or to a charity of your choice.

Dear Linda and Byrne,

Linda, I am so sorry to hear about Ross's death. I worked with Ross (and you) for so many years at Baker Botts, that I feel an almost 'familial' loss myself. And Byrne, you probably do not remember me, because you and my son, Mike, were about the same age--lots of good stories; Ross was so very proud of you, Byrne. I'm sure you know this. Ross Harrison will be missed.

My love, condolences, and prayers to both of you,

Peggy Kelsey (Shaw Tower)

Linda and Byrne

My children and I wish to express our condolences to both of you for having lost such a wonderful man. For most of my life I grew up with the law firm of Saccamano, Clegg, Martin & Kipple and of course Mr. Harrison. I cannot express how much his friendship meant to my mother, Gloria after the law firm was no more and even more so after her surgery. Mr. Harrison was a part of our family and we will never forget him. He shall always be in our hearts as you and Byrne will remain as well.

Our deepest and most sincere condolences to both of you for your great loss from my entire family and I. Mr. Harrison was wonderful as a boss and a very dear friend who I will never forget. Thank you Linda and Byrne for sharing him with my family and I. GOD bless Ross Harrison and may he rest in eternal peace.

Dear Linda,

I realize it has been years since we last saw each other, but I wanted to tell you how sorry and heart sick both Janet (Ekholm) and I are about Ross. All our love and blessings are with you and all of his family. We will always remember all the good, fun times we had with Ross, you and all of our Baker & Botts' family for those few years. Much love.

Amy, Frank III, and I have been talking today about "Mr. Harrison" ( we knew it was all right to call him Ross, but somehow we always stuck with Mr. Harrison) and his wonderful vitality, warmth, and kindness. His friendship meant so much to Dad, and to all of us. Losing him is still unthinkable to me. We will miss him terribly, and our hearts ache for you. All three of us plan to be there this Wednesday.

Until then, and with love,

Dearest Linda, Byrne, and all who loved Ross,
My heart is with you during this time of sorrow. Ross was such a kind, gentle, loving soul and I am filled with grief that he is gone. I will always remember that twinkle in his eye when he talked about his beloved family. You are what he cherished most in this world. He was a true gem and I will never, ever forget him.

Much love,

Dear Byrne,

Please extend our condolences to your entire family. I'm sorry we never got to know your dad, but, based on what his son is like, he had to have been quite a man. The world is poorer for his loss.

Love,
Jess & Marc

Dear Linda and Byrne,
I am so shocked and saddened by Ross' passing. I have such fond memories of working with him. As a new lawyer, he taught me a great deal and I will always appreciate his patience and kindness. My heart goes out to you and your family. He will certainly be missed.
