Robert "Bob" Hawks, age 77, of Copperas Cove passed away Sunday, May 20, 2007 at his home in Copperas Cove.

Bob was born May 18th, 1930 in Ellensburg, WA to Robert F. Hawks and Louise Curtis Hawks.

He was raised and educated in Ellensburg where he graduated high school with the Class of 1948. After graduation he joined the National Guard in Ellensburg and was there from 1948-1950. On June 24, 1950 he married the love of his life Evelyn J. Dallman. He entered the United States Army in 1952 and graduated OCS Armored School, 1st LT. in Fort Knox, KY February of 1953 attended flight School at Gary Air Force Base, TX. He served in Japan from 1954-1957 with the 56th AMPH tank and tractor BN then with the U.S. Embassy as an aide to MG Moore and General Kelleher. He then served in Germany from 1959-1962. After returning to the United States he was a National Guard Advisor in Culbertson, Montana from 1962 to 1964, he then served in Korea from 1964-1965. After leaving Korea he served as Operations Officer at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, NM before being sent to Vietnam from 1968-1969. After his tour in Vietnam he was stationed to Fort Hood, Texas from 1969 until his retirement in 1972 as the HHC Masster. On July 31, 1972 Lt. Col. Robert C. "Bob" Hawks retired.

While serving in the United States Army he received the Vietnamese Honor Medal First Class; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster; Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster; National Defense Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Commendation Medal; Combat Infantry Badge; Meritorious Service Medal and the Bronze Service Star.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn Hawks of Copperas Cove; a son, Steven P. Hawks and his wife Kimbra and their children Curtis, Heather, Brandon and Jena of Ozawkie, KS; a daughter, Karen L. Jarolik and her husband Rick and their children Derrick and Corey all of Copperas Cove; and a great grandchild, Michael Alexander.

A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2007 in the chapel of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove with Chaplain Doug Cobb of Vista Care Hospice officiating. Inurnment services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

For those that desire the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Vista Care Hospice, 2626 B South 37th Street, Temple, Texas 76504.

Services have been entrusted to the care of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
