Robert E. Herrick 87, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully at Seacoast Nursing Home on Saturday, February 25, 2017, with loved ones by his side. He was husband to the late Barbara (Johnson) Herrick, his wife of 60 years. Bob (known to many affectionately as 'Uncle'), was born, in West Gloucester on March 14, 1929. He was the son of the late Otto and Agnes (Price) Herrick of Cole's Island, Gloucester. Bob grew up on Coles Island Estate where he enjoyed, hunting, fishing, and working with his father. Boating was a big part of Uncle's upbringing. Outing's to Farm Creek, and Cranes Beach as well as lobstering on the Essex River. As well as many gatherings on the Coles Island Estate. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1948, where he was a member of both the football and hockey teams. He worked for Hardy's Hatchery, CBS Hytron in Danvers, Progressive Oil/Townsend Oil Companies and Madruga Car Services he was affectionally known as Mr. Bob. His last employment was driving a van for disabled students, which he really enjoyed. Bob served honorably in the United States Army, achieving rank of Corporal. His masonic involvement, was very dear to him. Following in his father's footsteps. Bob was a Mason with Tyrian Lodge and received his 50 year pin. Bob was an avid sports fan, especially the Red Sox. He enjoyed playing golf he was a member at Candlewood golf club for many years he enjoyed his many golf outings with all his golf buddies. He and his wife Barbara spent a good part of their life traveling to many places including Florida, Santa Domingo.as well as Maine, and Nova Scotia. For several years he was a member of the Main Street Bowling league and many years as member of the West Gloucester Trinitarian Congregational Church as well as the Men's Brotherhood of the West Gloucester Trinitarian Congregational Church with whom he would prepare Easter morning breakfast. Bob is survived by a sister Margaret (Herrick) Kerr and her husband Thomas of Cornville, Arizona. His niece, Carolyn Leanos Bittel, wife of Steven Bittel of Gloucester. His nephew, William J. Leanos, and his wife, Kathy Auld, of Gloucester. Nephews, David Kerr, of Arizona and Stephen Kerr of California, niece, Judy Rodriguez, of Washington, Great nephews, Christopher Peterson, of Peabody, Joal Leanos of Gloucester, Alexander Bittel of Gloucester, Jennifer and Jessica Rodrigues of Washington, and Jessie Kerr, of Arizona. He is also survived by 2 great, great nephews, 2 great, great nieces his dear friend Madalene McComiskey and her family of Gloucester; including her son and Bob's namesake, Robert E. McComiskey. He always loved, and enjoyed his times with his extended family including Bruce and Linda Johnson. He was predeceased by a brother William Herrick and a sister Janet L. (Herrick) Leanos and her husband John A. Leanos, of Gloucester and only days prior by loyal friend Thomas Sarofeen. Bob's Interment will take place in late Spring in Beechbrook Cemetery, West Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to West Gloucester Trinitarian Congregational Church, 488 Essex Avenue, Gloucester, MA 01930 or Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930.
