Robert Hess Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 2, 2024.
Lexington - Robert Edward Hess passed on Friday, November 29, 2024. Robert "Bob" was born March 17, 1951 in Evansville, IN to Robert Hess Jr. and Karen Sue Hess. After a childhood focused on academics and athletics in Chandler, IN, Bob attended Purdue University and Northern Kentucky University, obtaining a bachelor degree in Construction Management in 1988. Bob's position as a Construction Manager for US Army Corps of Engineers and GSA provided opportunities to contribute to many important projects across several states. From Eastern Kentucky, Cincinnati, OH, and Frankfort, KY, to Indianapolis, IN, Montgomery, AL, Olmstead, IL, and Richmond, KY, Bob's mark is permanently left on numerous structures built throughout his 40+ year career. When he wasn't working, you could find Bob enjoying sporting events - especially ones played by his granddaughters and the UK Wildcats - and watching horse racing. As partial owner of Noble's Promise, Bob had a once in lifetime experience on May 1, 2010 with Noble's Promise running in the 136th Kentucky Derby. Bob truly embraced a "you only live once" mentality and was willing to share stories about his experiences over a cold beer anytime someone asked. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hess Jr., brother Ronald K Hess, and brother in law, David B Laine. Bob is survived by his wife Sue Hess, mother Karen S Hess, son Andrew Hess (Monica), daughter Kari Hess (Kevin Hurney), granddaughters Sadie, Addie, and Marley Hess, and sister Robin Laine. Also mourning his passing are niece Michelle Bright (Austin), nephew Tyler Laine (Abby), stepdaughters Sarah Creel (Nathan) and Allie Michael (Darren).

A celebration of life gathering will be held at Dudley's Restaurant (258 W Short Street Lexington, KY) on Sunday, December 8th from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory can be made to Old Friends Farm or Lexington Humane Society.
