Robert Humble Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 1 to Jun. 2, 2011.
Memorial celebration services for Robert Louis Humble, 65, of Marshall will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Texas and Louisiana Association Building, Marshall with Rev. W. S. McLane officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home.
Mr. Humble departed this life on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born October 19, 1945, to the parentage of Jessie David Humble, Sr. and Birdie Lee Conley Humble in Marshall. He was a 1964 honor graduate of H. B. Pemberton High School and retired from the U.S. Marine Corps as E-7 Gunnery Sergeant. Following military retirement he was employed at Isle of Capri Casino.
He united in marriage to Irene Robertson and resided in Longview, Texas. On February 11, 1972, he married his devoted and loving wife of thirty-nine years, Rita LaJeane Nickerson and became parents of three loving daughters, Robrina Traylor, Jewel Allen and Sharon Hall. His father, Jessie David Humble, Sr. and brother, Jessie David Humble, Jr. preceded him in death.
Singing was an integral part of Mr. Humble's life. He sang professionally with the group Ernest Walker and the All Stars and The Christian Chandlers, who were part of Rev. I. M. Terrell's Hallelujah Train. He joined St. Mark Baptist Church early in life and was an active member until his death. He served on the Deacon Board and was president of the senior choir and singing group "Re-Committed".
Mr. Humble was loved by the old and young alike. He shared his love of people and music by sharing his singing talents with others on many occasions and lovingly referred to himself as "Big Cat Daddy". Many hours were shared with family and friends singing, fishing, playing dominoes and "just having a good time" with all those around him. He loved life and shared a special bond with all those with whom he came in contact, especially his grandchildren. He will be thoroughly missed by family and friends alike.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Rita LaJeane Humble; three daughters, Robrina (Fredrick) Traylor, Shreveport, Louisiana; Jewel (Marcus) Allen of McKinney, Texas; Sharon (Wilburt, Jr.) Hall, Marshall, Texas; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; mother, Birdie L. Humble, Marshall; four brothers, Benjamin "B.J." (Blinda) Humble, II, Marshall; Kenneth (Bobbie) Humble, Hubert Heights, Ohio; Horace (Sothy) Humble, Longview; Michael (Patricia) Humble, Tyler; one sister, Debra L. Jackson, Marshall; sister-in-law, Verdell "Bobbie" Humble, Longview; special friends, Robert (Rowena) Davis, Marshall and Barbara Alexander, Marshall; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

To Mrs. Humble, Rita ,and the entire family: My heart is heavy with knowing that Robert has passed on; and yet I want to thank you for all the patience that you displayed when Robert and the rest of us sang in the H.B. Pemberton school based vocal group called the Banlons.

Our group consisted of: Herbert Johnson, Melvin Roberson, Alvin Morris, Winston Bush, Greg Bell, Robert, and I. We also had a fine team of musicians.

We loved each other then and we love each other now. Our hearts are heavy with his passing; and yet we all know that earth has no problem that Heaven cannot heal. And so we all say,” good night our trusted friend, we’ll surely and without fail see you again in the morning.”
