ROBERT HUNTER Obituary

Published by Skagit Valley Herald from May 10 to May 11, 2017.

February 10, 1924 - May 5, 2017

Robert Paul "Bob" Hunter, 93, of Mount Vernon, died of natural causes, May 5, 2017.

He was born to Charles and Rosa Hunter in Branson, Missouri, on February 10, 1924.

Bob graduated high school from a one room school house near Branson, left home at age 16, and later received a degree from California Polytechnic in San Luis Obispo, California.

He was married to Virginia in 1943 and was later divorced after over 25 years of marriage.

Bob was a certified welder, a journeyman machinist, owned a farm, and finished his career as head of maintenance for Publishers Forest Products of America. In his retirement he owned Design Services in Anacortes, Washington, a metal fabrication company.

Bob liked hunting, fishing, and boating, along with building many things out of metal and wood.

His independent retirement was cut short by an armed home invasion. After he was shot during this unprovoked assault, he fought off the intruder and saved his own life when he retrieved his handgun after the assault and returned fire, wounding the assailant and forcing him to leave the premises. But, being wounded at 86 years old later triggered a massive stroke in Bob from which he never fully recovered.

He is survived by son Robyn (Carol) Hunter of Bellevue, Washington and daughter Sharon Hunter of Kirkland, Washington; grandchildren Monica Dawson and Dale Ford. There are four great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild.

His daughter Susan Ford preceded him in death.

There will be no funeral services at the specific request of the deceased.

In lieu of other offerings, the family asks that you consider donations to the National Rifle Association.

Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home.

Dear Robyn and Carol
Thank you for allowing me to share a tiny piece of your wonderful father. Bob was a prize..and my heart is a better place having known him. Through the trials of grief I hope you both will remember the joy. Robyn he was proud of the strong and honest man you are, he told me countless times that you were a better man than he had been. His love and respect for Carol was tremendous, knowing she held the heart of his only son, and that you together held each other up. And although he struggled his last few years, he brought joy and laughter to many lives. May peace fill your hearts and love color your memories.
