LEIGH - Robert H., retired city planner, died Thursday morning at his home in Cotuit, with his family at his bedside. He was 62. Born and raised in Boston, he graduated from Boston University with a degree in aeronautical engineering, and earned a Masters degree in city planning from Harvard University. His engineering career included work on the radar for the lunar landing module, before moving to city planning at the Boston Redevelopment Authority, where he remained for 10 years. He was a senior planner for the Town of Brookline for 15 years before his retirement in May of 2003. A longtime Newton resident, he moved to Cotuit upon his retirement. His great love of the sea showed in his many interests and hobbies, including sailing and keeping salt water fish and coral. He realized a longtime dream in 2002 by visiting Australia and snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Janet (Tuggle) Leigh, his sons, Thomas M Leigh and his wife Maggie of Sandwich, MA and David C. Leigh of Watertown, MA. Also survived by his mother, Mina Leigh of Watertown, MA and his brother, John R. Leigh of Saverna Park, MD and byt many cousins and other loving family members. A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held at the Leigh Home, 55 Dogwood Ln., Cotuit, MA 02635, on Sunday, July 18, between the hours of 3-7 P.M. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to The Center for Coastal Studies, P.O. Box 1036, Provincetown, MA 02657. He will be remembered most for his love of family, his gentle nature and sense of humor.
