Robert McDougall Obituary

Robert James "Murray" McDougall

3 May 1921 - 30 April 2014

Murray went peacefully to be with his Lord in the early hours of April 30. Survived by his wife of 52 years Ruth, daughter Joy (Mooney), son Colin, beloved grandchildren Brayden and Kendall, brother Alex and many cherished nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Colin and Lillian and siblings Beulah (Christensen), Stewart, Campbell, Nellie (Legge), Dougald and Islay. Murray was born in South Vancouver but spent his infant years in Robert's Creek, moving to Maple Ridge at the age of 5 when his Dad became principal of Alexander Robertson Elementary. During WWII, he enlisted in the Army (Medical Corp) and was stationed in England. After the War, Murray resumed his studies at Vancouver Bible School where he developed a life-long interest in theology and history. A member of the Maple Ridge Baptist Church since 1941, he served on the Deacon's Board for over 20 years. Murray retired in 1986 after working almost 48 years at Hammond Cedar Mill (BCFP). Murray was a quiet, reserved man who nevertheless enjoyed a lively intellectual argument and competitive sports - in his younger years playing lacrosse and baseball and later, watching hockey. He found pleasure in the small things of life: tending his garden, picking blackberries, canning fruit, studying his theological texts, going for country drives and reading the newspaper. Many thanks to Maple Ridge Seniors' Village for the care staff provided to Murray in his final years.

A Memorial Tea will be held on Tuesday, May 6 at 2pm at Maple Ridge Baptist Church, Lower Auditorium.
