Robert Miller Obituary

Published by Daily Local News from Mar. 9 to Mar. 10, 2015.
Rev. Dr. Robert Stephen Miller of West Chester On March 2nd after a long battle with cancer, Rev. Dr. Robert Stephen Miller took his last breath here on earth and went to be with Jesus. He is now breathing the fresh air of heaven. Robert (known to his friends and family as Bob), was an incredible husband, father, son, brother, friend, pastor, mentor, teacher, and so much more. Pastor Bob could often be seen walking around the streets of West Chester, telling people about Jesus and praying at the hospitals and shelters. His deepest passion was to encourage and equip others in their callings and motivate them to become faithful followers of Christ in their lives, communities, and ministry. He devoutly lived out his calling through pastoring Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church (the church he helped to establish in 1989), serving as the president of the Identity School of Christian Ministry, and writing a survival handbook to empower and train young pastors and missionaries. He also created and established JusticeRain, INC., an organization devoted to furthering God’s vision for justice in the world and an online 40 day spiritual journey called TempleWork. His life was so much more than his accomplishments. He gave fully and selflessly to others around him, loving everyone he met with a profound and deep love that will continue affecting his family, church, and community. Through his writing, his music, and his commitment to serving the Kingdom, he changed and shaped the hearts of many. He was loved by so many and is already missed by his family, friends, church, and town. Pastor Bob is survived by his wife Joni, his two children, Dana and Christie, his parents, Bob and Colleen Miller, and his brother and sister, Dave Miller and Beth Miller. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, March 25th at 3pm at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship. A repast will immediately follow the service. Please keep the family and church in your prayers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in memory of Pastor Bob.

Pastor Bob was the kindest man and so patient & understanding. He made us really think about how Jesus lived and the example he set. I'll always cherish him. Hope to see him in heaven someday.

Just got the reminder email today. In looking at Bob´s photo, I became quite emotional in remembering his positive influence on my faith in Christ and commitment to God´s Word. Thank you Bob for serving our wonderful Lord and touching many lives.

One of my fondest memories is driving to and from a Phillies game together and being enriched by your wisdom and fellowship. I´m sure you are rejoicing with our Heavenly Father at this very moment. Thanks to Jesus, I look forward to seeing you again. -Tom Gavin

Bob was one of my dearest friends at Muhlenberg. I met him my first week on campus. He helped me through when my Dad died. I remember when Bob and Mike started singing together. They shared their music with our fellowship and it was truly special.

I just finished reading Dr. Bob‘s spiritual survival handbook for cross-cultural workers as I have recently been appointed a missionary. I happen to be a 67 year old widow, and I have also served with my husband as missionaries in the Dominican Republic . As seasoned as I may be for my age and experience, I found his ideas fresh, potent, essential, wise and full of the joy of the Lord.

If you have not read his spiritual survival handbook, do so immediately. Please take note of his prayer for you as I have for myself, and at the end of his book take note of the fable of the field.

And now I will ask the Lord to introduce him to my husband. God bless you guys, all who loved this man. Love in Christ, Jan

I remember the love and devotion to Jesus that Bob had. He was persistent with me, as I struggled with my faith. I remember his logical approach to his Christian witness, integrating his interest in physics with responsible evangelism. He was a good athlete, loved basketball and tennis, which is where I met him at Muhlenberg College.

He was a leader- a precious gift given to him from the Lord

It was exciting when he and Mike shared their plans in our college Christian fellowship group, to begin touring as the Christian Stephens duo. As we sang their songs in our fellowship group, I always thought their harmonies very beautiful, and as I write this, I've got goosebumps hearing them again. The music on the album is terrific and inspiring! I never heard it before now, and while I knew at the time, that they would have a fantastic musical tour, "I Never Knew"... it would impact me 34 years later.

I've thought of those guys many times since then. Lost touch, and am now shocked and saddened at Bob's death. I regret not keeping in touch. He was a man who rejoiced when he heard a story of another one saved, and his voice is still an inspiration to me. Thanks Lord for this bittersweet memory... and I'm praying for his family.

I will never forget when I heard the Christian Stephens' song "Broken and Bleeding" play on christian radio. The song moved me, I was amazed and wondered how Bob and his singing/songwriting partner Michael Shaw ever
received such a wondrous
song to compose. The song was definitely Heaven sent! I had just
found out about Bob's passing, I was sorry to hear about it. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and Joni I still got you all's albums from the 80's and Torn Veil cd.
I am still blessed by the music. So glad to hear you all have kept the faith thru the years!
God is with you always.

He was an inspiration to me in college. His Christian Stephens songs still get me through the tough days of this journey. "I need a facelift today," after reading this sad news. I know he is with the Father and is feeling sorry for us in this crazy world. Come quickly Lord Jesus.

We were in Mexico when we heard the news that Bob is now with Jesus. We spent the entire week reminiscing with both laughter and tears. The thought of passing from this world to the next is so much more palatable knowing that Bob will be there to greet us (with some bizarre practical joke). It is certainly something to look forward to. Until then, we will do our best to follow his example in love and faith, though, who could really live up to it? Bob had the strongest faith of anyone I have ever met.The world is definitely a better place because of him and we are better people having know him. Can't wait to see you again, Bob! Linda & Greg

Dear Joni, Christie. Dana and Miller family. Our deepest sympathies for you all as you adjust to life without Pastor Bob. PTL, as Christians we know he is experiencing pure love and joy of God at this time and we will all be reunited with our loved ones in glory. Thank you for sharing him with the church. We all have been touched by his testimony and will stand strong in God's promises to carry us through. He was also my cancer comrade and encourager through my journey with cancer. I will do my best with God's help to continue to fight the fight and be a light in the memory and honor of all those brothers and sisters in Christ that have gone on before me. May we all honor those that have gone on before with some big steps to follow in. God bless you all and know you are loved and prayed for. In Christ, Jane Klapcuniak and family.

Dearest Joni, I praise the Lord for using Bob to help me and so many others to love, exalt, and serve our Savior more, to walk in holiness with our Lord, to keep pressing onward for His glory, and to know Him and make Him known. I thank Him for His goodness and blessing to us all shown through His steadfast servant-leader Pastor Bob. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Pastor Bob was a man of vision who took church leadership to a whole new level. He redefined what church is and should do and affected not only his own congregation but all the believers in West Chester! We all miss him deeply!

Our family was tremendously blessed by Pastor Bob's influence and wisdom for 12 years. He was an incredibly gifted man of God, whether it was in counseling,
preaching, encouraging or being a visionary, willing to take risks. Bob pursued the Lord in depths very few have in this life and was mightily used to advance the Kingdom of Christ. He leaves a rich legacy of bringing others to a greater understanding of God's love and character along with the hope and truth of the Gospel. Thanks to Bob, we are stronger Believers. Prayers for comfort to the Miller family.
