Marjorie T. Kraby

Marjorie T. Kraby, age 92, of Apple Valley, MN and formerly of Decorah, IA, died Monday, July 18, 2016 at her home.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2016 at Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. Charis Combs-Lay officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon Monday, one hour before the service, at Decorah Lutheran Church.

Marjorie Trena (Rima) Kraby was born on September 24, 1923 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Roger and Sadie (Headington) Rima. She was baptized and confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church. Marjorie attended Decorah High School, graduating with the class of 1941, and was very active in anything to do with singing and Declam. Marjorie was an Iowa State Soprano Soloist Champion, Declam Champion and 1940 Homecoming Queen. She was also a soloist at many events in Decorah throughout her school years.

Marjorie married Arnold L. Kraby on January 16, 1942. To this union, four children were born: David, Donald, Jeanne and Mary. They moved to Minneapolis, MN from Des Moines, IA in 1952. After raising her children, Marjorie went to work at the age of 42 in the food industry. She became the catering Manager at the Minneapolis Athletic Club and retired after 20 years.
Her biggest passions then became her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition, she loved music, cooking, baking, and reading. It was not uncommon for her to read until 2:00 to 3:00 in the morning. She was a soloist at many weddings, funerals and other events for many years.

Marjorie is survived by two sons, David and his wife Jody of Harrisburg , PA and Donald L. of Apple Valley, MN; one daughter Jeanne and her husband David Swanson of Apple Valley, MN; three grandchildren, Donald J. Kraby, Daniel Kraby (Lisa) and Melissa Swanson La Flex (Brett); 10 great-grandchildren: Jacob, Joshua, Justin (Anna) and Joey Kraby; Dakota, Dylan and Katelyn Kraby; Jacob and Sophia La Flex, and Chrissie Andryski; two great great-grandchildren, Kalli Kraby and Aushton Kraby; one brother, Roger (Eris) Rima of Easton, MD, and many very special nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arnold on November 5, 1999; daughter Mary Elizabeth; grandson Christopher David; two brothers, Earl and Dana Rima; and two sisters, Stella Henning and Lorraine Wood.
