Robert Perry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 13 to Feb. 18, 2023.
Robert Michael Perry was born in Irvine, TX in 1969. In 1975, his family moved to Las Vegas for his dad's work and while he returned to Texas to visit family on occasion, he spent the rest of his childhood there. Robert rode and showed horses, and played football starting in elementary school and into high school. Las Vegas was a smaller town then, and it was a different time. Robert was a man who didn't like to be the center of attention. His stories about having sleep-overs with his friend, whose father turned out to be a notorious mob enforcer, and encounters with celebrity were frequently amusing.

After high school, Robert got a BS in Health Care Administration at UNLV. His father had owned and ran nursing homes. This, coupled with a lasting affection he had for his great-grand mother, lead him to a career helping people. He later returned to UNLV and earned a MA in Social Work, and became a counselor specializing in serving Veteran's and older adults.

Robert met his wife, Sarah, in 1999. After his graduation, they moved to Port Angeles, WA where he launched his career, and they started their family. Robert cared deeply about his work and labored tirelessly to provide services for his clients. He approached his job with humility, always striving to be better at his craft. His career truly mattered to him, and he felt honored to walk alongside people on their healing journey.

In 2008 Robert became a father. It opened his heart in a way that he had not known was possible. In 2013 he discovered it could open a little further with the arrival of their second daughter. Robert was active in the family from the start, changing diapers, getting up early with the children so Sarah could get a little more sleep, and readying the kids for school in the morning. He was happiest when doing things with his family, especially outdoors. The Pacific Northwest is a gorgeous place, and going on hikes or exploring the area was one of the things he enjoyed most.

On Thursday, February 2, 2023 Robert's friends and family received the devastating news that he had passed away. His death was not expected and came as a shock to everyone. He was 52. His passing has left a hole in their lives that will be felt for years to come.

Robert is survived by his wife Sarah and their daughters, Hannah (14) and Emma (9); mother, Elizabeth Gritzer; father, Charles Perry (Pop) and his wife Judee; brother Chuck Perry, and his wife Rachel and their children and grandchildren; sister Robyn Hood, her husband Tim and their daughter and grandchildren; his brother Jody's children; his sister Carrie Doyle and her daughter; and his in-laws, Bert and Marietta Bergman, Bert and Sharon Bergman and their children. He also leaves behind his friends and a community he believed in and was honored to serve. He is preceded in death by his brother, Jody Perry.

There will be a Celebration on Life held on Sunday, February 19th at the Dungeness River Nature Center at 1pm. We will be sharing our favorite stories and celebrating the beauty he brought to our lives. For those that wish to participate in a potluck immedately following, please bring your favorite dish; if you can't bring a dish to share for any reason, please come anyway - we want you there.

The news of Robert´s death is shocking. Robert work for my Behavioral Health program through the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs, and was one of the MH providers in the federal VAMC Puget Sound Community Based MH Program that I directed. I spoke with Robert approximately one year ago, as he was reconnecting his private practice to the VA and TriWest.

I am very sad about this loss of a wonderfully caring provider who worked especially hard to help trauma affected veterans and their families have better lives. Robert will certainly be missed by many who knew him, and experienced better lives as a result of his caring soul and skillful help.

My deepest sympathies go to Robert´s family, friends, colleagues, and clients. He will be missed and remembered deeply.
