Robert Rawlings Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 4 to Jun. 5, 2015.

Robert "Mark" Rawlings, a respected resident and longtime businessman in Durant, Oklahoma, passed away too soon on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the age of 53. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana to Robert Don and Mary Alice (Porter) Rawlings on February 14, 1962. Mark married the love of his life Markita Grider in Durant, Oklahoma on November 20, 1981.

Mark lived his life to the fullest and loved his family completely. He was the owner of Salita's Mexican Restaurant in Durant, Oklahoma. Mark was proud of the quality service, along with superior meals served with the respect that he instilled in his employees toward their customers. He became a role model and friend to many by being a man others could trust and by his example of dedication and commitment to anything he was involved in.

Mark was actively involved in the growth and future prosperity of Durant, the city he loved. He was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard and was on the Airport Advisory Board. He was an honorary Kiwanian and gladly dedicated his time and energy to many schools and organizations. He was a proud member of the 1979 State Champion Football Team. Mark lived an active lifestyle and could often be found doing the things he loved; flying, farming, sports, boating, scuba diving, making underwater movies and aerial movies. He served his Lord and Savior in his daily life while encouraging and speaking the truth in love to others. Mark will be deeply missed by those who loved him.

Mr. Rawlings is survived by his beloved wife Markita of the home; children, Pete Rawlings and wife Zoe of McKinney, Texas, Shaun Rawlings and wife Ami of Nashville, Tennessee and Brittni Joines and husband Roby of Tushka, Oklahoma; cherished grandchildren, Reese, Samuel, Avery, Hazel, Rock and Riley; parents, Bob and Mary Rawlings of Durant, Oklahoma; brother, Rick Rawlings of Houston, Texas; sister, Angie Gregory and husband Matt of Durant, Oklahoma; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and family and many, many friends.

I was saddened to find out today that Mark had passed. I had a great admiration for Mark, his achievements, and cherished our friendship. We met in the early 90's when we were both in the hotel business and Mark helped me fix my phone system with his self taught programming skills. We maintained our long distance friendship over the next 3 decades, aided by emailing and texting. More recently he kept me informed on the Salita's Salsa progress. Mark was one of the most intelligent and kind persons I have ever met and I feel honored to have known him. He will be missed. May his memory be for blessing.

So sorry to hear of Mark's death. We found out too late to be a part of the family night or memorial service. Please know that Markita and the family are in our prayers. We have many fond memories of Mark, including our singing group, 'Good News.' May God give you comfort in this time and the time to come.

BMarkita, it is with a heavy heart that we share our sincere sympathy in the passing of Mark. No words can fill the emptiness you have. Right now the expressions seem overwhelming, but there will be a time all of them will allow you to accept and cherish the love for you and Mark.
Love, Cathy & Ron Campbell

You are all in my prayers. Mark was such a giving, loving person and has left a "big hole" in so many lives. Bob, Mary and all your family, it is difficult to be so far away from you at such a time as this. May you feel God's presence in the days ahead and peace as you share the memories he has left. My love to each of you.

My heart is bowed down with sorrow for you guys. My family and I think the world of Mark. He has been a great friend of our family. We have many fond memories with you guys especially when Shaun was playing in the band with Josh and Willy. He was so friendly and accomodating when we would go to Salita's. I personally will miss the occasional times I would see him around and he would pop my back into place saving me a trip at the chiropractor, lots of fun times we all had through the years. You all will be constantly in our thoughts and prayers as you go forward without your dear loved one. With love and respect, In Him, Terry Henderson and family.
