Robert Rowan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 7 to Mar. 8, 2016.
Robert "Bob" J. Rowan, 87, of Hastings Street, Brookville, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born on Feb. 24, 1929, in Brookville, a son of the late Irvin Roy and Orpha (Fenstemaker) Rowan.

On June 25, 1950, he married Doris L. (Osborne) Rowan in Brookville. Doris preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 2006.

For 42 years, he worked for the Pittsburgh & Shawmut Railroad of Brookville. Bob was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 983 in Brookville, the Roseville Independent Chapel and the National Rifle Association.

He loved gardening and landscaping. He was very good with his hands and enjoyed woodworking and could be found making different kinds of crafts. One of his favorite crafts to make was turkey calls. He loved his turkey calls and enjoyed giving them to his friends and family, encouraging them to practice and do better at calling them in. Bob loved to hunt and would be considered a world-class turkey hunter. Spring gobbler season was his favorite time of the year. He loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bob is survived by two sons, James L. (Janice) Rowan of Brookville and Thomas W. (Christine) Rowan of Harrisburg; a sister, Ruby Irwin of Euchipa, California; two brothers, Verlon (Virginia) Rowan and Richard "Ray" (Helen) Rowan of Brookville; five grandchildren, Brian (Shelley) Rowan, Brenda (Brad) Esposito, Lauren (Tyler) Glass, Mari (Chad) Chubb and Michael Rowan; and six great-grandchildren, Garrett Rowan, Brice Rowan, Alex Esposito, Zane Esposito, Alison Esposito and Grayson Glass.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the McKinney - d' Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825. A second visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016, at the Roseville Independent Chapel, 3381 Rt. 322, Brookville, PA 15825.

A funeral service will be held immediately following the second visitation at the church, beginning at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jim Fillhart officiating.

Interment will take place at the Brookville Cemetery in Brookville.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Roseville Independent Chapel.

I will miss Bob dearly. He would come to Jefferson Paving and visit with me a couple of times a year. Of course, he would always have something made of wood for me. I will really miss our visits. He would always tell me how his garden was doing and ask me about mine. He was a very sweet man.
