Robert Slingsby Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 21, 2024.
Robert Slingsby died on Sunday, October 13th at 11am in Houston, Texas. At the moment of death, he was surrounded by his wife, Eileen Slingsby, and two sons, Zack and Ryan.

Robert, or Bob as his friends called him, lived a full and magnificent life. He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1956 and grew up in New City, New York. He received both his Bachelor's Degree and Law Degree from Fordham University in the Bronx. He practiced law for several years and became a distinguished trial attorney before transitioning into healthcare and real estate with the creation of medical facilities throughout the Bronx.

He was a successful, dynamic and inspiring entrepreneur who could not go a month without a new idea, passion or partnership. Mostly, his ventures were aimed toward helping people in need. He believed that only through giving -- be it in his professional or private life -- would he receive.

Throughout all of his endeavors, he established lifelong friendships. His generosity, honesty and humor drew some of the best quality people into his life. He adored his friends and would do anything for them, and was frequently touched by how much they were willing to do for him.

He was a faithful Catholic. He believed to his core and spoke often of his faith. He was in awe that God would sacrifice his only son. He died holding a rosary.

He was a golf fanatic. He loved sports and literature, classic films and horse races, walking along the ocean and telling stories to his grandkids. He knew something about everything.

By far his greatest obsession was his family. He loved and was constantly proud of his sons. And he often shared with them that he had married the greatest woman on the face of the earth. Bob and Eileen's love story was one of selflessness, truth and undying loyalty.

Robert is survived by his wife and two sons, his five grandchildren (and a sixth soon to be born); his two daughters-in-law, Julia and Jamie; his sister Tara Handsman, her husband Alan and their daughters, Jade and Skylar; his nephew Bryan Slingsby and his wife Annie and their children Adrienne, Caroline and Luke; and a host of in-laws, cousins and community of wonderful friends.

I will always remember the man he was! You rarely come across people in life like "Bob". He was a man sent by GOD to help touch so many people on his time on earth. He helped me and taught me so much about life. He was the father I never had! He was an angel on earth and now he will claim his place as an angel in Heaven. You will be missed beyond words can express. Love you with all my heart "Dad" . Eileen, Zack and Ryan I'm so sorry for your loss!!!!!!!

Love Eternal, Mike Dorfman

Even from a young age I knew what it was like to have an uncle who cared about me, my uncle Bob no matter how tired he was or how hard he worked that day would never say no to doing something with me whether it was playing with barbies on the floor, or taking me to play mini golf with him. He would always go out of his way to make me feel loved. I used to always tell my parents i wanted to go see uncle bob and auntie eileen. Going to their house is a memory ill never forget, how excited i would be for the next holiday to come up, not for presents or for food, but to see my two favorite people. I give my prayers to eileen, and his two children zack and ryan who now have to try and continue life without their favorite person, the person who made them smile every morning and filled their life with laughter. Bob is in a better place now where he will watch over his family friends and loved ones helping them get through everyday, its comforting to know he is always by our sides, and may he rest in peace.

I was fortunate enough to marry into this beautiful family and to be a part of Bobs life for so many years. His intellect, wisdom, and charm kept the attention of not only his family, but everyone in the room. He had the incredible ability to be strong, fierce, and decisive when needed, but also the capability to be the gentle soul who lay in the living room floor playing dollhouse with the little ones (voices and all).

The love he had for his family was by far his greatest quality. The memories that we have made, the advice you have given all of us, and the never-ending love and kindness that you filled our lives with will never be forgotten.

My heart and prayers are with Eileen, Zack, Ryan, and the rest of our beautiful family. We have gained another angel in heaven to watch over and protect us all.

My Deepest Condolences to my Aunt Eileen, Zack, and Ryan!! My Uncle Bob, he was a great genuine man, who was funny, witty, and right to the point!! He took me to my first ever movie in a Theater, actually my first 2. Something I'll never forget, because I was young and in awe of it all. He also, threw me the keys to his big Lincoln Town Car and had me drive from Blauvelt to the Bronx, and I never drove on a highway before. I was nervous, but he never looked up which calmed me down, just occasionally said "Slow Down a little". Of course I have a lot more memories, but those stick out to me the most and being so awesome with my daughter when she was little. Your Grandkids loved you deeply everytime I saw you all together. He was the most generous man, helping everyone through hard times. A Great Man who will truly be missed!! I Love and Miss you Uncle Bob! I still cannot believe you are gone, but I know you are happy and protecting the family from up there!! You raised two great boys, who are amazing men! Zack now has 5 kids, and Ryan is having a little girl. You did a great job!! I will always be there for my Amazing Aunt Eileen, and the boys if they ever need me, we all will!! Rest In Peace Bob!! I am really going to miss you!! May God Bless you!!

Our immense grief of the loss of our dearest friend is only matched by the profound impact he had on our lives. The Joy, Happiness, laughter, knowledge and kindness was unmatched. Our lives will go on with a huge void. We know he´s in Gods loving arms. Until we see him again, we will cry and grieve, but we will celebrate all the years of great times that we were blessed to share with our brother.
We will never forget you Bobby !
