Robert Volz Obituary
66, of Dover and formerly of Sugarcreek, died Friday, August 3, 2012 at 1:55 p.m. in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia after a one year illness. Born Nov. 12, 1945 in the Naval Yard Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. he was a son of Paul C. Volz of Whiting, N.J. and the late Christine Volz. He was a 1964 graduate of Dickenson High School in Jersey City, N.J. then received a Master's Degree in Education Rehabilitation Counseling from Kent State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in Montana and Taiwan. He was employed and retired as a rehabilitation counselor in Holmes County. Bob enjoyed Civil War History and spending time with his daughter and grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Hiller, whom he married Oct. 9, 1965. Also surviving are his daughter, Beverly (Jeff) Shaw of Newport News, Va. and his 18 month old twin grandsons, Jack and A.J. Shaw; a brother, John (Judy) Volz of New Jersey; a sister, Joni (Bob) Miller of Pa. and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Monday, August 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Union Hill Cemetery at Sugarcreek. Pastor Ed Scaglione will officiate and burial will follow. Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek is handling the arrangements. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County at 716 Commercial Ave. S.W. So sorry Bev and Barbara that we could not be with you. Bob is in heaven, which gives us all peace and comfort. This life is but a breath so we will see him soon! Love you all....
