Robert Yates

Robert West "Bob" Yates, 63, passed away on March 28, 2025, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan surrounded by his daughters. Born on July 9, 1961, in Pontiac, Michigan, Bob lived a life marked by resilience, devotion to family, and a deep love for the outdoors.

Bob was known for his strong will and unwavering spirit-qualities that earned him the affectionate description of being "stubborn as hell." He was hard-headed in the best way: determined, passionate, and fiercely loyal. A proud patriot and a man of faith, Bob found spiritual grounding through the Church of Christ.

An avid outdoorsman, Bob's happiest moments were spent in nature. Whether casting a line into Lake Michigan or Tippy Dam or hunting deer (more like hitting them with his truck), he found peace and purpose in the wild. Fishing was more than a pastime-it was his passion. His smoked salmon became legendary among those lucky enough to try it; many would say it was simply the best in the world. He never missed an opportunity to talk about guns, military history or catch a NASCAR race.

Bob's love extended beyond people to animals-he was a devoted dog lover who always had room in his heart for four-legged companions. But above all else, he cherished his role as a grandfather. He was deeply devoted to his grandchildren: Izabelle Yates, Bobby Hall, Orion Krolewicz, Alaina, Serenity, and Cyrus Vallee. His pride in them was more vast than Lake Michigan itself.

He is survived by his daughters Andrea Vallee (Josh), Dr. Sara Krolewicz (Casey), and Susan Yates; his siblings Bruce Yates and Jennifer Yates; and his sister-in-law Cindy Yates. His legacy continues through each of them and through the grandchildren who brought him so much joy.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Billy and Melba Yates; his brother Billy Yates; and his former wife and the mother of his three girls, Traci Yates.

A private service for his daughters to honor Bob's life will be held in July of this year.

May Bob be remembered for his hard-headedness, love of his family, and enduring connection to the natural world he so dearly loved.
