Roberta Rivet
08/01/1949 - 12/27/2014
Castro Valley
Roberta Rivet died on December 27, 2014, after a short illness. She was 65. A lifelong resident of Alameda County, Roberta was born to Roy and Mabel Young of San Lorenzo, attended schools (including Arroyo High School) in San Lorenzo and was a graduate of Heald's Business College in Hayward. Her Heald's classes eventually led her to a job as a secretary at R.T. Nahas and Co., owners of the Castro Village Shopping Center in Castro Valley and the Newark Square Shopping Center. Early in her 30-year tenure with Nahas, she worked her wayup to become property manager for both centers.
During her 40 years in Castro Valley, Roberta lent her developing expertise to nearly every local worthy cause and charitable organization of note, including the East Bay Cancer Support Group, Eden Foundation, Oakland Coliseum Foundation, Castro Valley Arts Foundation, Castro Valley Redevelopment Citizens' Advisory Committee, the Urban Farming Program of the Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs' Activities League and Alameda County Successor Oversight Board. She served on the Castro Valley Municipal Advisory Committee from 1999 to 2007, including two terms as its president. A longtime member of the Castro Valley Chamber of Commerce, she served on its board of directors, including terms as President of the Board, for many years. In 2008, she was recruited to become Executive Director of the Chamber, where she oversaw its expansion from Castro Valley to serving the other unincorporated communities of Ashland, Cherryland and San Lorenzo, under the new name of Castro Valley/Eden Area Chamber of Commerce.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Bernard Rivet; son Adam Buchan of Stockton; grandchildren Marisa Jones of Oklahoma and Connor Buchan of Stockton; sisters Rhonda Jones of Stockton and Judy Roberts of San Diego and half-siblings Paula Daniels of Linwood and Robert Young of Cottonwood, AZ. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Castro Valley Moose Lodge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs'
Activities League, Urban Farming Program, 16378 E. 14th Street, Suite #100, San Leandro, CA 94578, or Family Emergency Shelter Coalition (FESCO), 21455 Birch St., #5, Hayward, CA 94541.

Judy and Rhonda, So sorry to hear about Roberta. We lost touch through the years, but I have many fond memories of our wonderful friendship in high school.
