Robin Deniece Lewis

Robin Deniece (Robinson) Lewis, 59, of Meridian Township, Michigan, left this earthly world on December 12, 2022. She was born in Clarke County, Alabama on February 12, 1963.

Robin was proud to be the first in her family to graduate from college, meeting the love of her life, Roger, while earning her Bachelors of Science in Food Science and Nutrition at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. The couple relocated to Lansing in 1987 to raise their family. While her kids attended Lansing Public Schools, Robin was always volunteering in the kids' classroom and PTOs. Robin was a long-time member of the Holmes Road Church of Christ, where she enjoyed serving in various roles including teaching Sunday School. Over the years, Robin and Roger became "community parents" to countless young people. Through her loving spirit, Robin became affectionately known as 'Mama Lew' to many Michigan State University basketball and football players who needed a mom, good home cooking, and a home away from home.

Robin was an esteemed member of the greater Lansing community, touching countless lives through her passion for public service, community involvement, and volunteerism. Robin began her long, public-service career at the Ingham County Health Department as a volunteer in December 1988. Including time as a temp and working as a Clinic Assistant in the Women's Infant and Children Program (WIC). Robin retired from the Ingham County Health Department in 2011.

She was proud to serve on the Downtown YMCA Advisory Board, Cavanaugh Elementary, Cumberland Elementary, Gardner Middle, and Everett High School PTA/PTO; Lansing School District Middle School Task Force; Lansing School District Board of Education (Board Secretary for last 4 years of tenure); Numerous Professional Boards of the Michigan Environmental Health Association (MEHA); President of the Great Lakes Conference on Food Protection; appointed by Governor Jennifer Granholm two terms to the Michigan Board of Sanitarian Advisory Committee; Past President of the Ingham County Employee Association (ICEA) Employee Union; multiple roles as a Board member for the Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) representing the City of Lansing and Meridian Township; Ebersole Foundation; Ingham County Racial Equity Task Force; and the Haslett Public Schools Equity Planning Committee. Robin was recently elected to the Haslett School Board in November 2022 obtaining the most votes of all the candidates.

Robin was preceded in death by her parents (Aucy Robinson and Fannie Glover) and younger brother John Robinson. Left to cherish her memory are her Husband of 35 years, Roger Lewis, children Rita Lewis, Rachel (Mack) Willis, Ryan Lewis and Ramaya Lewis. Grandchildren Makayla Willis and Tovia Cartman; siblings, Linda (Norman) Campbell; Walter Thompson; Bobby Neal (Gail) Thompson; Ray Charles Thompson; Vickie (Jerry) Robinson-Smith; Jacqueline Robinson. She will surely be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and all she encountered. Robin was beloved by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends at Riley Funeral Home from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. on December 22, 2022. Celebration of Life Service will be held at Holmes Road Church of Christ on December 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Family hour begins at 10:00 a.m.
