Roger Carnation Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Dec. 6 to Dec. 7, 2008.

CARNATION Roger Harry August 15, 1940 - November 29, 2008It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather and brother. Roger passed away after a very short courageous battle with cancer. Roger is survived by his loving family: wife Gail; sons Greg (Jutta) and Brad; daughter Denise; granddaughter Samantha; sisters Louise Cherry, Irene (Jim) Robertson, Elsie Heisler, Evelyn (Lee) Chouinard, and Beverley (Bill) Binfet; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Palmyre, grandson Dustin, and daughter-in-law Penny. Roger retired in the fall of 2004. He found enjoyment in maintaining his yard, gardens, and home. He also enjoyed cooking and planning family dinners, as he had such a great love of family. During the past year he joined the Healthy Heart exercise group, as well as volunteered at Eagle Ridge Hospital in the library and worked in the gardens there. He found so much pleasure in both. The family thanks the nurses on C2B at Eagle Ridge Hospital for their care. A very special thank you to Dr. Carlson and Maria, who showed such care guiding the family during this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 10th at Burquitlam Funeral Home, 625 North Road, Coquitlam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Roger's favorite charity, the BC Children's Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice.

I worked with Roger in the 60s at Crescent and Avco Finance. I emailed the obit. to another associate, John O, and he replied: "He was a class act and I never recall a bad word spoken of him. I always looked forward to Roger's marketing visits to my first branch in Abbotsford 1970-71. Then went on to fill his large shoes some time after he left '75 - 77..

My deepest condolences to Roger's family. I used to work "with" Roger at Maple Ridge Community Credit Union and then was fortunate to work "for" him at Westminster Savings Credit Union. He was one of the best Managers I have ever worked for. No matter what, Roger had your back. I don't know how he worked with (6) six women and still stay sane, calm and positive. He will truly be missed.

My deepest condolences go out to all of you. Roger was a wonderful friend and co-worker. I worked with Roger at Maple Community Credit Union for several years and we all had a great deal of respect for his talents. He had a wonderful sense of humour and we all enjoyed his wit and the friendly banter with co-workers. A hard worker, a true professional and a good friend.

Gail and Family: Although we are not able to be with you all, we share the heart ache of your loss. Loved Rogers sense of humor. Looking back since you brought him into our family, I remember him telling jokes and funny stories with some quirky sound effects. When family get together there is always a lot of laughter and Roger was there adding to it. As your sister I am glad you found Roger to share your life. He loved all his family dearly. He will be sincerely missed. With Love and Caring
