Roy Newbern Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 27, 2024.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roy Bailey Newbern, who left this world on August 23, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 67. Roy was born on June 9, 1957, in Pearson, Georgia, and was raised in Jacksonville, Florida, where he spent the majority of his life.

Roy is survived by his loving wife, Kim Newbern; his sister, June Wallace; and his children, Chris Tomberlin (Sandy Tomberlin), Nicole Glasgow (Jake Glasgow), Kimberly Mayo (Mason Mayo), and Jeff McQueen (Andrea McQueen). He was a devoted grandfather to his eleven grandchildren: Tucker, Ryker, Talmage, Ripken, Brinley, Brody, Briggs, Maverick, Gracen, Truth, and Wyld. Roy was predeceased by his father, Lowell Newbern, his mother, Libby Newbern, and his brother-in-law, James Wallace.

For over 35 years, Roy worked in the air-conditioning and heating business. He was deeply involved in his community, especially passionate about coaching his children's baseball and softball teams. Roy was known for his generosity, always willing to help those in need find their footing in life.

Known affectionately as "MacGyver" by his friends and family, there wasn't an obstacle Roy couldn't overcome. He had a passion for fishing, coaching youth sports, riding his Harley, and spending quality time with his loved ones.

Roy's fearless spirit and zest for life were evident in everything he did. He had a remarkable sense of humor and a gift for making others laugh. Having given his heart to Jesus at a young age, Roy's faith was a guiding force in his life. He believed in treating others with kindness and grace, never quick to judge but always ready to lend a helping hand. He instilled in his children the true meaning of selflessness and led by example in showing love and compassion to everyone around him.

A memorial service to celebrate Roy's life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Southpoint Community Church, located at 7556 Salisbury Rd., Jacksonville, Florida. Family and friends are invited to join us in honoring his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to NAMI Jacksonville at this link. https://namiflorida.org/get-involved/donate/make-a-memorial-contribution/ (https://namiflorida.org/get-involved/donate/make-a-memorial-contribution/)

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.
Kim, heartfelt condolences to you and the family. Praying for strength to get you through... Kim (Lance) Alaimo
