Ruby Dolores "Dolores" Burkes-Witham

Ruby Dolores Burkes-Witham, known affectionately as Dolores, passed away on July 28, 2024, in Upland, CA, at the age of 90. Born on December 30, 1933, in Waco, Texas, she was a daughter to the late Ruby and Alvin Lykins.

Dolores graduated from Waco High, Waco TX and furthered her education at Ohlone Jr College in Fremont. She dedicated many years of service as a clerk for the Employment Development Department in California before her retirement.

Dolores was a member of Vineyard Baptist and South Euclid in Ontario. Her faith was a significant part of her life. She had a sharp wit and a love for words and puzzles, often sharing laughs and cherished moments with her beloved grandchildren.

Dolores is survived by her daughter, Julie Wybenga of Ontario CA, and her son, Norris Burkes of Auburn, CA. Also surviving are her granddaughters Melissa Messenger, Samantha Burkes, Sara Brakhane, Brittney Nelson, and Nicole Burkes as well as her grandsons Alan Burkes and Michael Burkes.

She was preceded in death by her son, Milton Burkes; her 1st and second husbands, Thomas Burkes and Robert Witham.

Funeral services will be held at 9:45 AM, Monday, August 19, at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518. The Omega Society of Ontario, CA is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the ChispaProject.org which is dedicated to establishing libraries in Honduran elementary schools.
