Ruth Walsh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 11, 2024.
Ruth Ann (Bruzgis) Walsh, 86, of East Windsor, CT, beloved wife of the late John Walsh, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

Ruth was born in Philadelphia, PA, on April 13, 1938 to the late Joseph and Anna Bruzgis. She was raised in Philadelphia and graduated from the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in 1957. After graduating, she met the love of her life, John, while attending a friend's wedding. The two were inseparable from that point forward. They were married in 1966, and she moved to East Windsor to be with him. A more well-suited match would be hard to find. They loved to travel and were able to share some beautiful cruises to Nova Scotia, Hawaii, the Panama Canal and the Caribbean. After retirement, Ruth loved spending time with her husband solving crossword puzzles or just watching TV. She never missed Days of Our Lives or Wheel of Fortune. Avid sports fans, she and John especially loved watching the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and UConn Women's Basketball.

Ruth made a successful career at Travelers Insurance in Hartford, CT, where she worked for many years. She finally left the workforce in 1993, after years of loyal service. Ruth was a longtime member of the Greater Hartford Club of the Deaf. She was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Hartford, and was an active member of the Deaf community. Ruth was a loving parent and grandparent. She thoroughly enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow, and attend their many activities over the years. She was blessed with the opportunity to share a home with her grandchildren in her final years. "Nana," as she was affectionately called, had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh.

Ruth leaves a daughter, Maryanna Clark, and her husband Fred, of East Granby, CT; a son, Joseph J Walsh, and his wife Melissa, of East Granby, CT; three granddaughters: Julia, Ava, and Kelsea Walsh; one grandson: John Walsh; a brother-in-law, Daniel Walsh, of Ellington, CT; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John Walsh; her brother, Joseph Bruzgis; and her sister, Dorothy Kozak. Her brothers-in-law, Dennis Walsh and Michael Kozak; and sisters-in-law, Patty Walsh and Jeanne Walsh also predeceased her.

In lieu of flowers, Ruth's family requests that donations be made to the Greater Hartford Club of the Deaf, 20 Bigelow Street, East Hartford, CT 06108 or to the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, 100 W School House Ln, Philadelphia, PA 19144.

Private services will be held at a later date.
