Sally Elizabeth McAlary

MCALARY - Sally Elizabeth (nee Deacon) Died peacefully on May 18, 2010 at Minoru Residence with her family by her side. Sally was born on November 26, 1927 in Campbellton, New Brunswick to Elsie and Irving Deacon. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Murray in 1982, and her sister, Billie Grasby. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Joan (John) Berta; sons David (Heidi) McAlary; Tom (Connie) McAlary; grandchildren Kevin, Jenna, Zachary; youngest sister, Jeannie Trewella and sister-in-laws Miriam and Merilyn McAlary. Sally graduated from Mount Allison University in 1948. After marrying Murray in 1950 she made her home in many places across Canada from New Brunswick to British Columbia. Sally made wonderful friends wherever she went and especially enjoyed becoming a Life Master in Bridge with her bridge partner and dear friend, Peggy. As well, Sally's many other interests and activities included supporting St. Stephen's United Church and the Richmond Art Gallery with her volunteer work. Sally was a dear mother and a gracious lady even through the challenging years following her stroke in 2000. Our family would especially like to thank Dorothy, an exceptional caregiver, who supported Sally in her home. Her children will always be reminded of their mother's optimism, humour, intellect and loving commitment to family. She was always there for us. A Memorial Service to honour Sally will be held on Wednesday, May 26th at 2pm at St. Stephen's United Church, 7025 Granville Street, Vancouver, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. and Yukon are appreciated.
